fail. lightyears is a measure of distance, not a time. stars can live billions of years too.

It's the amount of time it takes for light to travel a certain distance, thus lightyear. Who knows how many of the stars we see may actually be dead because the light hasn't had the time necessary to reveal this to us...just saying lol

Yes, in a vacuum, I wasn't disputing it being used as a measure of distance lol
the fact is, you MAY be looking at a star that is burnt out, and the time it takes for the light from it to reach earth hasnt caught up yet. Its definitely not a certainty that a star your looking at is burnt out though as per the picture. back to the funny.
