Someone wrote one of my stores a bad check for $45 dollars from a closed account. It's not very much money, but should I turn this dude in for doing this? If I remember correctly this considered fraud. Also, as soon as I got the email I went and found the dudes information on facebook (phone/email/skype) But we also have his DL number/address/alt. phone from when he ordered his food. Who the hell writes a bad check to a pizza place!?

I'm not positive but I think writing a bad check is a charge in and of itself. Could be wrong though.

Edit- You might want to look into this to see if they have one locally. [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Check_Restitution_Program[/ame]

Yes. The check is a promise to pay X amount for services provided by your company - he should follow through with his promise or face the consequences.

Think of it this way: you consider yourself to be a nice guy by letting it slide. Years down the road, hundreds of these nice guy type of decisions have increased your company's negative shrink value to the point where you have to lay off a hard-working co-worker that you respect and like in order to keep the company in the green. Recuperating that $45 could save an honest person their job.

^^^ That's the nice way to go about it so you feel good about yourself. LOL I'd burn his ass for trying to pull one over on me, just out of principle. 45 isn't worth your time I'm sure, and maybe that's what he thinks, and why his balls were so big as to presume.

Thanks guys! We usually don't take checks at all, but a new employee took this one. I think this guy deserves some punishment.

Yeah, letting someone get away with not paying you isn't really being a "nice guy".

Burn him.

UPDATE: Well I googled this dude (he has a very unique name) and I got his email address off of Facebook. I emailed him giving him a 24 hour warning to pay up or get arrested and he actually emailed me back!! We will see what happens...

He will probably steal his mothers credit card to pay you.

Another UPDATE:

He came in and paid cash this morning, he gave my manager some sort of half-assed excuse. "My ex-wife closed the account without me knowing!" Oh well, I'm glad he manned up and paid. He is such an asshole he only tipped my driver $2.37 on a $42 dollar order with a bad check!

Yep, good work.

At least this guy might think twice before trying to screw the next guy over.

Wow, a fellow pizzeria owner on SVTP! How long you been in the business? Anyway, I take checks and occasionally get "beat". Maybe twice a year. It stinks and costs me money, the sale plus the returned check bank fee. I just call the police & file a report but don't go much further than that. It's a part of business unfortunately and sometimes isnt worth the time/money to pursue. Glad you got him to come in and pay though. Bigger problem these days are the fraudulent cc charges I get once in awhile. Oh well.

^^^ If you let them write check I bet you save money over CC terminal fees even with the occasional rubber check.

Glad to see you got your money in the end OP.
