Well I decided to sell my Focus RS and "downgrade" to a FiST. Picked up a '18 with Recaros for a decent price

My payment was $727 a month (42k or something financed) and the RS averaged with my driving 18.4mpg over the 23k I owned it. Took a small bath on depreciation, but I'm looking to save around $5,000+ a year on payments and gas.

Payment is now $399 for the same 60 months without any down. Dealer went from $465 a month all the way to $399 after telling me at first that the deal just wasn't there. Took 3 hours to get to my demand of $399

Seems like every week there is a RS throwing a rod or melting something down. Mine was tuned to 335/400 and was an awesome car. Just expensive to own as a DD and damn did it have a stiff ride haha. My RS got traded in on the OEM rubber at 2.5/32 and needing brake pads as well

Liking the FiST so far. For a new car, not many other options for something so fun to tool around in for $22,000 after rebates haha

I figure if I can save up an extra 15,000 just from a different DD over the next 3 years that will go a long way to being my 2nd house which I would love to do a custom build on

Cliff notes...

It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow

I LOVED my RS. But a long lock and PTU is something like $12000 from Ford installed.

Some guy just posted about his warranty getting denied because of the tune.

You almost have to tune it haha. It's just not fast with the OEM tune. It overcompensates big time in cold weather. The car feels faster in 75f than it does in 30f factory

I'm waiting maybe a year or two before i pull the trigger on a FiST.
I should have bought a CPO model honestly. If the end goal is saving money, that would have been the best.

But CPO are hard to find with the Recaros and this one had 3750 in rebates so I went for it

MSRP was 24k, I financed 22k because I was behind on my RS.

Thanks depreciation from the HG shit

Can you provide a link to all of the cars throwing rods or melting things every week? I follow the RS forum pretty regularly and haven't been seeing this. I just installed a tune from Stratified on my RS a few weeks ago...

Ok, maybe slightly exaggerated. But I see it fairly often on the FB page RS USA

For example this was just last night. Sent to my friend as a screenshot.

A week ago there was a guy that threw a rod through his PTU. Bill is $12,000 and change and is trying to lawyer up after his claim got denied

My buddies car locally blew up last month. Threw a rod clean out the block

Just a few real quick searches.

As a said, I probably exaggerated a bit.

But, there's just been too much chatter for me. I'm very hard on my vehicles and was just too concerned.

I have a "guy on the inside" that would have helped me out. I had my HG done with a tune before the FSA came out. But I was still too worried

Congrats on the new ST. I had a 2014 for 4 years as a DD. Great mpg and really fun to drive. Traded it in with about 100k on it for a 2018 fusion

How much power was your buddy making? Not gonna lie, that is slightly terrifying. The RS is soooo much better with the tune. Ford really neutered it from the factory...

To be totally fair he blew up on an E30 tune. But still it worries me

Blew up something like 50 miles after the custom tune.

I think he made 402whp?

Jesus, $727/month for a car payment and you still took a bath?!

Remind me to never buy a new car lol
I did 60 months with I think 1000 down on my RS.

Had 31,100 on the bill when I went to trade in. Got offered 25,000 from CarMax and first offer from dealer was 27,000

Congrats, Kevin. That FiST will make a nice DD. Are you going to do any mods? Tune?
