So the NMRA Season opener was coming up, and now that the Yellow Blaze is running in the 10's it was time to build her a roll bar.
I was going to Enter her in the True Street Event on Sat, I finally got every thing I needed on Tuesday, and started everything on Wednesday..thats only 3 days:uh oh:
Got the DOM tubing from a local ALRO steel. Got some parts for the swing out door from Applied Racing here local in florida.
Using only Part of the swing out door kit that attached to the main hoop, we made a socket setup for the door bar. The door bar can be removed with only about a 1/4 inch of anything remaining by your feet.
Then we painted it Yellow Blaze....Tri Coat, Ground Coat, Top Coat, then Clear... Same way as the factory.
The rear seats are going to be removed, so passengers in the back seat where not of a concern, but I did not wanna cut up the plastics. So we went through the back by the rear window and into the trunk.
So Wednesday we got everything bent but for the door bar, Thursday we got the door bar finished, and welded everything in place inside of the car. Late that night we went to spraying...all 3 coats of the Tri Coat Yellow Blaze. In the end I got the car all put back together late Friday, and finally got some sleep and was ready for the big day in Bradenton. Here are the results.
The Socket from Under the car, The door bar is bolted into the socket with an Allen Head Bolt :
All in all, not bad for 2 days of fab time. I'll have some more photos of the roll bar with the interior installed.
Thanks,
Chris
