Never understood the “my time is worth x amount of money” when it comes to hobbies or anything outside of actual work. Maybe that’s why I’m a poor peasant.
Exactly. I like keeping these cars on the road. I tried billing for my time on the last cobra I saved. I couldn't get the car sold. I traded it for this. (I might add I had less than the 9k the guy wanted for it into it.) Traded a $7k investment for this car. I've got way more into it now, but meh. I think I'll be roughly 13k into a running terminator by the time I'm done.

I can see where people ballpark track hours - it's interesting to be able to say if it was at a shop it would have been roughly X in labor but at the end of the day the car is worth what someone will pay for it. The other factor is sometimes you can use that information to bolster the value of the car when trying to set the price on an agreed value policy.

Photo dumping some stuff. I have been working on small things throughout the year to get this thing ready for the big push when all the parts are here and ready to go. I think I could slam a couple of monsters and have it running in a weekend when I have my pile ready.

Some perks of working at a shop with blast cabinets with varying shots in them help. the Timing cover looks nearly NIB had it not had some small dings from use.

I also scored a rear bumper an deck lid at $600 for the pair! unfortunately the 3rd brake light was broken, and a rodent had gotten into the truck lid harness. A replacement harness was purchased and is sitting in the car ready to be installed.

The headers are ugly as sin currently. I have a friend that runs a powder coating company, and can ceramic coat exhaust. So having those stripped and coated will be on a list of things to do before this spring.

If you happen to be in the central Iowa area, hit up Pheonix's Powder Coating LLC in Nevada Iowa. Does excellent work.

Had a friend of mine that works at a local ford dealer pull an oasis report for me just for the hell of it.

I PRAY I DIDNT BUY A CURSED CAR!

Coolant leak during PDI, oil leak less than 1500 miles in. Random bulb failures, rear end blew up TWICE! (Once from broken half shaft.) Suspension issues? Broken clutch, fit/finish issues.

I'll get any little demons whipped out of this thing.

Well, short block showed up Tuesday (12-20-22), I had some reservations with condition. Seller agreed to do a partial refund, and I would keep rotating assembly. upon tearing into rotating assembly, crank was found to have damage, and actually be a 96-98 crank with the improper imbalance.

Seller agreed to correct the issue and will issue a full refund when he gets the short block back in his possession. I feel bad for him as well, as they part these cars out regularly and this one will have cost them some money unfortunately.

Until then, ill be going through my heads as I try and ascertain what I will do for a short block. I have a budget of around 3k to either put one together, or find a good used unit that can accept my heads, and remaining engine components.

Was it a 96-98 cobra block, aluminum teksid and 8 bolt crank? Those are still forged component’s. But yes the rods and pistons are not.

If you could have scored the block and crank for cheap ($500) might have been worth holding onto.

Hopefully you find something. My buddy has a cobra short block with 1 bad piston in it. Head dropped a valve seat and piston smashed it.

It was an iron block engine. It's 100% had a forged crank, h beam rods, and forged pistons. But whoever put it together in the past threw it together haphazardly.

The N/A cobra cranks are balanced differently than the 03/04 cranks, so on top of fixing everything that was wrong, it would have needed balanced too.

The snout of the crank was damaged pretty good. I needed to use a heel bar and air hammer to get the timing gear off the front for reference... Hell, I've got several N/A cobra cranks laying around along with a set of rods. Figured I'd buy an 03/04 takeout for simplicity.

Seller is a stand up guy, I do not want to say his name and get the wrong thing across in the community. He doesn't deserve that, nor do I want to be that asshole. He's making it right after shit went south.

Sucks about the short block. But it's good that the seller is willing to do the right thing.
Yep, kind of rare nowadays. Big plus that he is agreeable to make things right. I also like that YOU'RE being a stand up guy as well! (y)

I've never understood why people jump the gun on stuff like this.

"My short block arrived with damage, I'm going to be pissed and post about it before I speak to the seller to work out the details."

You're just making yourself look like an ass that nobody wants to work with. I've been on both sides. It's not fun for anyone, why make it worse?

It's called "losing your temper" or "losing it" because you're pissed. LOL. We've all been there at one time or another. Sometimes it's hard maintaining control when you feel you've been screwed or disrespected. Then again, like you're pointing out, too often people jump the gun and don't give the other party a sufficient chance to explain/make things right. That said, I have an ongoing issue with a construction company repairing my deck that stretches that ideal to the limit. I've gotten delay after delay since early September and now the season is over until April. It's become pretty obvious they're putting larger jobs over mine, even when I'm scheduled. I've gotten excuse after excuse without a resolution. Now, they're ghosting me. They now don't respond to my text requests for an update on scheduling my project. So I had to take one more deep breath, and I'll give them until December 29th. I WILL leave a negative review(s) at that point. Which is why it is SO refreshing to hear a case where BOTH parties are working/have worked together to work things out to a satisfactory ending.

Oh I've been there. I wholeheartedly understand that. I'm typically a fool me once shame on me kind of guy. Situations like yours with the deck would have my blood boiling. I almost changed realtors in the middle of buying my house due to the incompetence of the individual helping we were going through. How does one **** up paperwork so much when his job is literally paperwork...

I missed out on a 2.8% interest rate because of it. The 3.36 isn't bad, but i could have saved that much more over the duration. THATS MORE CAR PARTS!

Well. I'm good at making bad decisions. Friend of mine has a 2.2 KB that they're selling. Spins freely then locks up at random. Rotor pack looks good at a glance. Thinking either the snout needs rebuilt, or a bearing is starting to fail. Will likely go through it. From what ive gathered KB will still service these blowers if the rotors/case isnt messed up. When/if they do the service ive been told they give you the option to update the snout. Was cheap enough either way to have a wall ornament at the least. I have my stock eaton that I'll likely start out with when I finally get a short block bought or built.

Well. It spins freely after pulling the chunks of exploded teeth out of what's left of the gearset. Hope I can find a set of gears for this thing. Will have to get fancy I think.
