Z06 vs. GT500

I'm so tired of hearing all the ranting and raving about the new Z06. They are fast, they are nice cars, but come on they aren't that big of a deal. People I work with are all saying well it is faster than the new GT500 that is coming out(Knowing how dearly i love my cobra). Well sit back and think about it. The new Z06 has a 7.0 liter engine and the cobra only has a 5.4 liter engine. BUT the Z06 is only like a 1/2 second faster in the quarter. The Z06 cost about $75,000, while the GT500 is about half that. If you spend about $1000 on the new cobra and buy a better pulley to turn the boost up, a Diablo chip, and some weight reduction, I think we will be kicking some Z06 butt. Then again, thats just my way of thinking. Please comment and tell me what you guys think.

P.S. I don't have a problem or anything against corvettes but enough is enough...

think about this though, the zo6 7.0 is making its power without the aid of a blower. you can't really say "well the cobra only has a 5.4 and it's barely slower than the vette's 7.0." that 5.4 has a supercharger slapped on top of it(as you all know) to make it that fast. i'd still go for the cobra though without a doubt. :thumbsup:

well from what ive heard u cant change the pulley on the supercharger due to room and length of snout, also, the gt500 wont be half of zo6, itd probably be 45,000 msrp + $15k-20k mark-up cuz ford dealerships look at the shelby name and go "OoOoO". and yes the 5.4 is remarkably smaller than the 7.0 in my opinion they should have stuck a 427 or 428 cobra jet from the old AC Cobras or Gt500s THAT would make things a little more fair. not to mention the Corvette not only weighs less than the previous generation Z06 but they still only have 2 seats compared to all mustangs.

in conclusion,

Corvette = Sports car
Cobra = Muscle car

2 different classes

500hp n/a vs. 500hp s/c

z06 will be whoopin the new GT500's arse all day and all night!!!! especially on the road course...id but a new z06 anyday over the new GT500....

It's going to be bad. Ugly maybe, but bad. Think of a Terminator with more cubes. Only gripe is it's too fat.

Definitely the biggest drawback of the new Cobra is the weight. That is one fat ass bitch!

z06 is $65K and the Cobra is $40K. That's not half as much by my math. The Z06 will hold its own and best the most expenseive, most exotic cars in the world, straight line cornering, braking, etc. - Ferraris, Lambos, Vipers - you name it.

The Mustang will never do that except in a straight line with some work. But it was never meant to. The Z06 is a far superior car all around, but should be as it is designed from the ground up to be a world class sports car costign $40 - $65K. The GT 500 is an affordable mass produced car with a bunch of stuff bolted on, designe dfrom the groudn up to cost half of the Z06. Two different reasons for being and two different worlds.

So don't be offended by the comparison and don't worry about it.

X2. Also, a Z06 at a dealer nearby was 65k and GT500s are going to selling for the roughly same price, with the GT500 being worth much less than that in a year. The Z06 will whoop up on the GT500 any day. Mod them both and the Z06 still whopps butt and it will always outhandle the GT500. However, they are two very different cars. If I had my choice, I'd take the Z06.

GT500's Msrp IS $51K not including dealer jackup prices, which means not no where near half the price of a c6z06. also the c6z06 is a far much better car and with a cam and longtubes, it'll smoke pullied GT500s. the GT500 couldn't even beat the base model c6 in t he 1/4 mile and auto circuit and it cost more than the C6. To me the GT500 is an overiced and heavy underperformer. It's too damn bulky to be a sports car. It's more of a 4dr lincoln ls with 2 doors and a blower motor. C6Z> C6> GT500

actually the previous generation C5Z06s with a tad less than the new C6Z06s......

hmm lets see.

5.4 liters plus 112ci. right around 7.3 liters.

The z06 is lighter, handles better, and is much faster. its also more expensive.

trouble is, the C6, which ain't much more expensive is lighter, handles better, and is about as fast.

go easy on the pipe cheech. The msrp of the gt500 is like 41k for the coupe, 45 for the vert.

am i the only here seeing that some people are not adding the $20k MARKUP on the MSPR price for the GT500 here in this thread????? $45k???


NOTE TO PEOPLE THAT ARE SAYING THE GT500 IS GONNA BE $45k:
STOP DREAMING! try more like $65-$70k!! after the markup!!!
