I'm in the process of selling my 03 and I received a text this morning from a guy that said he was wanting to purchase the car for his 16 year old son. I didn't like his offer, but would you consider a terminator for your son?

My only child is 10 months old so Im not much help to you. I think it depends on the kid, everyone matures at a different rate. If my child showed the maturity/responsibility of an adult I would purchase them whatever car they wanted if I could afford it, lol.

Probably not.

I got into enough trouble with my 88 Mitsubishi Starion when I was 16. That thing only had 188hp to the crank...

I just don't think at 16 you have enough respect for the power and others on the road. There is no way my 16 year old starts out in one. He drive the 98 Buick with the 6 cylinder until he pays more attention and gets the hang of it. It can all happen pretty fast in a Terminator, and it is away from you before you know it. I have been surprised at my age to be almost sideways when passing on the highway. I cant imagine what would happen if you have no experience and were faced with something like that.

This brings me to my worry about ever selling my car. I would have to very particular about who would sit behind the wheel of a convertible with 750 hp. I would feel some responsibility if something happed to them. It is a good thing I never planed to sell it when I bought it new!

Oh, HELL NO!!! I'm 56 and get in way too much trouble with mine as it is, and I've been driving for 40 years. You might as well buy you son a box of hand grenades to play with.

I started out in a 1993 ford escort station wagon.. "the shaggin' wagon". I dogged the shit out of that car and it probably had less than 100hp. If I had a terminator at 16 it would have been wrecked within a couple hours/days lol.

If he wants a ford then I'd say that dad needs to get him a svt focus and let him tear it up with that. I'd fear for my son/daughters life in something with that much power and power potential.

Agreed with the above, the Terminators are simply too much a car for an experienced driver. I started out in a nice 2002 Ranger XLT until I had enough funds to pick up a 2002 Mustang GT. I can say this first hand that I didn't appreciate cars and threw out the "I can handle it" mentality out the window when I wrecked my GT 6 months after purchasing the car at 17. Bought at terminator at 19 and even that is too young an age IMO.

Im 19, almost 20

Parents bought me my 99 V6 at 15
At 17 i sold it and with their help plus my earnings i bought an 05 GT
Sold that in January at 19, bought my 88 5.0
Then traded that for my 04 Cobra.

I believe you gain respect for the car by starting slow and building

Depends on the background of the kid. I grew up racing go-carts, dirt-bikes, quads, etc.

If the kid isn't use to fast things, then no. But if he is, and respects the power..I don't see any problem with it.

I got bought my Cobra when I was 19. Had other cars before. My first car when I was 16 was a 94 Camaro Z28 6 speed. Bone stock, but enough balls to teach me how to drive a performance car, learn how to shift quick, learn how to do burnouts and mess around. Each car I owned after that was always a little way faster and then I worked my way up to my Terminator. If I was given a Terminator at the age of 16 it might have been a little too much. As of now though, it's not enough lol

Nope, started with a 96 GT, then a 97 Cobra, then supercharged it, then the real deal.

this..if they havent been involved in high performance stuff for a long time and shown to be responsible, no way in hell...even if they have its still a concern they may do something stupid trying to impress their friends.

Probably not! At 16, we are still at the stage of showing off and this is the wrong car to use for that. Hopefully his kid is a VERY mature young man.

Im 19 and would say I have allot at risk when I drive for "fun" (CAREER,family, others), I have had fast cars before the termintor and I still find myself learning things and pushing it a little too much at times. But I know plenty of people my age that I wouldnt trust with a stock civic, really depends on the person. But most definetely not a first car tho...................he wont treat it right
