considering swapping out my 355s for some 410s, just curious if they would hurt me or help me. my car is a very mild 347 with a tko 500. with the 355s i'm still in 3rd gear through the 8th. will the 410s cause me to shift into 4th at the finish line and hurt me? it has been 8.51 at 86 on street tires 275/40/17 with a 2.1 sixty. on dr has been 8.01 at 88 with a 1.81 sixty, both runs was on a 355 gear and a t5 trans. i cant remember what rpm i was at crossing the finish line cause i havent raced in 6 months. i shift at around 6k-6200 thanks for any help.

Lower gears makes your motor accelerate faster. I know some people think that changing gears is waisting time on the drag strip but I personally think that it doesn't matter if your really good at it. I've seen cars pick up a bunch w gears (usually this is what happens), but I've also seen a few that went the other way. I'd bet you'd be better w the 4.10s.

I used to have some 3.07s n my car and when I changed to the 4.10s mine didn't spin as bad.

i know they put you into the powerband faster, my only concern is will i be shifting into 3rd right at the 8th mile?

It's more about where your car is making power. 4.10s might not be the solution. What's done to your coupe?

its just a mild 347 stroker. makes 338rwhp and 391rwtq. it runs great with the 355. but i cant remember what rpm i'm at in 3rd at the 8th. thats why i was curious if the 410 would hurt me.

Dyno graph? And I don't think they'd hurt you. I'm 3.73s on a stock motor with a 27 inch tall tire and I'm crossin the traps around 53-5400 RPM. I'm sure your motor pulls till 6k, so you'd do good.

In my old 94 Cobra, I installed 4.10's and I would shift into 4th before the 1/8th mile trap. Really helped out my car though, Dropped it from 9.14 in the 1/8th to 8.38. It will benefit you, go for it.

i took it to the track sunday with the 355 and i was at 5600 rpm in 3rd gear crossing the 8th mile. so with the 410 i'll be hitting 4th right at the line. think i'm gonna keep 355 gear in it for now

i think you are better off with the 355's on a street tire, the 410's will just multiple your torque, which is already a issue on street tires, if you had a slick they might be worth while, but on the other hand the pushrod family seems to not benifit quite as well as mod motors do with gears. IMHO i would go no more then 373's but since you already have 355's there is little diffrence. we have tried 327/355/373/410 combos with auto/5spd. the little bit of extra power multiplecation you receive is not worth the extra traction issues and another shift to worry about in the 1/8th.

yeah it makes alot of low end torque. i'm gonna change my heads next spring so i'll pick up top end hp to match the torque. its went a best of 8.51 at 86 on street tires and a best of 7.81 at 87 on 17inch slicks. on slicks i was already at the top of 3rd gear going through the traps with my 355, so i guess i'm gonna keep it in for awhile

I have a Mild 306 and made 339.12 RWHP and 331.67 RWTQ. Your Torq is there and I think you should leave the Gear you have. I'm the one who needs 4.10's. Im currently running 3.73 and LOVE THEM. More gear would probably do me some justice on the 1/8 of the mile. But I'm getting ready to slap on a Vortech Supercharger so I might change out my 3.73 for 3.55. I'm in need 42lb injectors and a new MAF and I'll be ROLLING!!!!!

I was in 4th in the 1/8th and had to hit OD in the 1/4. Put a taller slick on it and you will be pushing it, but you shouldnt have to shift into 5th. My old combo included a 347/ tko. I was running 26.0 slicks then I went to 28 10.5 and it helped alot.
