275 is the widest recommended by the tire manufacture for a 9" wheel. Wider than that and most tire manufactures won't grant any warranty claims. Also mounting a tire that is too wide for a particular wheel can make maintaining proper tire pressure difficult which will cause uneven tread ware and a shorter life for your tires.

As has been stated, the nitto drag radials run almost an inch narrower than the rest of the brands and do fit well on a 9" rim. On my 10.5" rim, they come just barely flush with the outer edge of the rim. I need to be careful as I don't have a whole lot of curb protection.

Here are some pics of the nitto 315's on 9 and 10.5 rims. (these are some big pics BTW so you should be able to tell the details)

Here is one showing how it is pretty much exactly flush with the edge of the rim:

Just so you know, the bulge you sea on the 9" rim is about 1/2" out from the rim on each side just to put it in perspective.

Yea, I knew that the nitto's ran small. I had 275/40's on a 17x8 rim before and they looked as narrow as the 245/45's I had on the front. That's what I don't want. I'll probably end up going with the 315/35's. Thanks for all the input everyone, and Pure03, definitely thanks a bunch for the pics!

I would go with 275's on a 9 inch rim. The pics posted by Pure03Venom show maximum contact patch with 315's on a 10.5 rim.

Isn't that the point, maximum contact patch?

315's fit, but if your not getting full potential from the tire it seems like a waste of money IMO.

i've got 315 summitomo's on 9'' 03 cobra wheels. looks great and no problems. sticks out a little and looks alot better than the 275's did. i would recommend it to anyone. if you can swap your back tires to the front with no problems, your back tires are too damn small.

315 is too wide you need some 275s....try going with some BFGs they run a little wider than others and look good. I think a 315 would sacrifice some handling too on a 9"

Here is a pic of my 305 nittos on a 9" rim... these are with a 1" spacer which stuck out too far so I went with 3/8th's

I have also been thinking about going with 315 DR's. Would I need a spacer for them on a 9" wheel? Seems like the inside of the tire would rub without one.
