can anybody tell me why would they spend 30k plus for a mustang gt that says shelby but doesnt have any of the gt500 goods that would be worth the xtra money.. you cant do much with the gt cause the engines only hold so much power before grenading, i think shelby/ford ripped alot of ppl off when they did the shelby gt.. think about it, pll actully think these cars are worth so much money and they think they are rare well guess what there not! there were approx 100,000 thousand mustang gts made in 07 and 08 carrol shelby goes and buys lets say 1000 2008 and starts adding some suspension a shifter stripes and a stickon plaque and then starts numbering them from 1 to 1000, but in reality they were already numbered from ford when they were originally built correct? its not like a cobra which was built by a special team and doesnt match the gt at all, the body parts are different the engine is totally different the wheels the interior the number made from ford etc etc, right? so why spend 10k extra for something that will only be worth a little more then the average mustang gt just as long as you dont drive them and keep milage to a mininum.. so can anybody tell me the difference? thx

lol, i asked this question on the team shelby forum and they all got real pissed off at me, so they started deleting my post/threads and then finally kicked me off...i wasnt trying to piss them off but lets face it, why not just buy a gt and add those items that shelby added which are ford items anyway and save yourself some money, wait alot of money lol...everybody who has one thinks they are rare and worth a ton of money, well maybe in 50years and with no milage and kept garaged, but hell so would a chevy cavelier if you didnt drive it lol..all in all take the stripes off it and park it next to a gt and you cant even tell the difference... the least carrol shelby could of done would of been change the body/ground effects a little bit add different interior and do something way different like add a 6spd and different motor, just like looking at a 2004 mustang gt and a 2004 mustang cobra terminator, the 2 look nothing alike and the cobra will be worth alot more then a gt anyday and any year..there is at least 100k gt produced every year so they are nothing rare! just because carrol shelby bought 1000 of them and number them to his liking doesnt make it worth money guys...he didnt build the car he "added" some "ford" parts.

For some people it's a cheaper way to get into a Shelby, a lot of people can't afford a GT500 but want to be in the Shelby family. I looked at buying one a few years ago, they are kinda cool.

It is because most the general public doesn't know the difference between a noisy alternator and a supercharger. That public has fat wads of cash or credit to give to anyone willing to sell them something they think is cool or makes other people who don't know better envy them.

Why by a aston martin vantage when a modded termy can whip its ass all day long. But to the hot chick at the light the termy looks like a V6 rental car and the aston martin looks like a exotic car.

I guaranttee the Shelby GT-350 probably gets more attention in a car lot then most cars twice its money. Because anybody over the age of 35 remembers the '66 Shelby GT-350 and it stands for performance. Anybody under doesn't even know what a 66 shelby GT-350 was.

Since most of america can't buy or even build a replica '66 GT-350. They buy somthing that is simular, drives and rides better.

It is like the bullitt, it cost more because what it represents.

You want real travisty, how about all the dealers selling GT500 look alikes that were just Mustang GT's. Title is mustang GT. A dealer here Skillman was doing this and selling them for $40k, How would you like to be that sucker now. Since you can buy a low mileage real GT500 for less then that. Your kit bodied mustang GT is worth less then $18k five years later.

yes they are slower then a gt500, but shelby gt's they are nice cars though esp white with silver stripes but were a ripoff when new $ wise.

but one fact They are rare and will hold value down the road, belive it or not a shelby gt is more shelby and rare then an actual gt500, the gt500 was massproduced @ ford plants / svt, the shelby gt's were actually made @ shelbys actual las vegas plant and are numbered and you can get a certifcate for them

hell some 2007-2008 used gt500 shelbys sell for $29-$30k+ used when new they were what $40-$50k, I have a few used regular shelby gt's down @ my local ford dealer selling for $24-$29k used and they were only $30-$38k new, so the gt500's seem to lose there value worse. the older gt500's will lose more valuve since the 2011+2013 shelbys come with with another 50-150hp and 100-200 lbs lighter, the older ones are underpowered heavy and no traction compared to the new ones coming out.

mustangmanjeff, wait a second lets clear something up, these shelby gt's were never assembled at the shelby plant in vegas, they were bought by shelby off the original mustang gt ford line up at fords plant by shelby then they were brought to shelby plant to have minor bolts put on them, like ford intake, ford suspension, shelby stripes and a ford/hurst shifter, thats it, shelby never assembled the entire car.. this is where shelby gt owners are so very very confused, this is why they think this car will hold value and be worth something, and like i said before it may be worth money 30 years from now garage kept with no miles, but so will the average chevy caveliar and so on..somebody else needs to chime in here about the where abouts that these cars were built from the ground up, cause im almost 99 percent sure they were bought finished from ford and brought to shelby for minor very minor upgrades, that most ppl who have a gt already did to there own cars.. then carrol shelby numbered those vehicles as they were finished with the upgrades...

You are correct sir. These cars were shipped to Shelby, basically already completed by the Ford factory.

i figured that, ive heard other ppl say they thought shelby built the cars ground up, but i didnt think so... now if that was true they would prob be worth more, but other then a stock mustang i dont see any xtra value in these cars...shelby ripped the pl off if you ask me!

The Shelby gt, California special and the Bullet are basically the same car. All these are cars are using the Ford racing setup and calibration, but have different body kits along with a few other bits on the Shelby.

Yes the Shelbys GTs were sent to Shelbys factory to have the parts installed, just as they did back in the 60's. Did some over pay for the chance that O'Shelby farted on the car was he walking through the shop, maybe.

Ford developed this package and there are some who are willing to pay a premium for a factory installed/developed stuff. Some people don't have the time or skills to do the work themselves and want a turn key car.

Was a Shelby gt worth 10k more then a C/S or Bullet when new, that could be debated, but if you look at current re-sale prices, all 3 of these are selling for about the same now, and all are selling for more then a GT that has the "same" mods but installed by the owner and will continue to be worth more as time passes.

not by much are they worth more, i agree they will be worth more then a normal gt but were not talking thousands.. the older shelbys that went to the dealer also had alot more power and better upgrades to keep them worth the money they are now.. but if you take the stripes off the shelby you wouldnt even know it was a shelby you would think its a gt(which it is).. but if you remove the stripes on a gt500 shelby you can tell the difference and the 2 do not look alike.. shelby should have done better for these guys, he really did give them a beaten on these cars..sry. but its the truth. notice how he now has a gt350 on the market? the body is much different then the gt and its got the bigger much much better motor in the car. he could of at least did that for the shelby gt. right now as it stands if you want a car that holds value buy a 03/04 cobra they seem to hold the most value in my opinion and they different from the 03/04 standar gt noticebly very much, they have a kick ass motor and many more valuables.. i bought a saleen and thought it was worth something, it isnt worth shit in my opinion.. my cobra is the shit, although i like driving the saleen, i would never invest in another one.

I think the really "value" isn't in the upgrades, but in the heritage that the buyer is buying into. It's the buyer's perceived value that makes the car worth it to that particular buyer. Everyone spends their money differently and some love the heritage and what the Shelby name brings to the table. I own a GT500 and I bought it for the performance of the car AND the Shelby name that's attached to it. Some people cannot afford the added price of the GT500, but still want a "Shelby". In my opinion it's a pretty good looking car and I'm sure the owners feel the same way. I have some friends that own Shelby GTs and they think a lot differently than you. I think most of them know the car wasn't BUILT by Shelby....but they still appreciate the heritage and what it represents. I wouldn't go into a forum and start saying the cars aren't worth the money people paid for them...value is in the minds of those that own the cars...and some may keep them for 30-40 years....just my .02.....

I believe they (Shelby GT) have won their autocross class the last 2 years in a row.
