"Life is too turbulent and stressful these days. The expectations are high, rewards are thin, and the sacrifices to achieve them are steep." "Society" seems to place a premium on material success I.E. money...and maybe the misinterpreted Nietzschean "will to power." It is unfortunate that anyone who is not well off and struggling is often looked at as a failure without taking time to understand what they may have had to overcome or the repeated blows they may have suffered not from their own doing. The Book of Job explains this..yet most folks come off as Job's "friends" in the way that they "comforted" him. It seems like some folks need their success to be worshiped and yet still need to dance on others misfortunes. There are forces outside Cause and Effect; that is scary to most people. Though I am an atheist now, I still believe that life needs to be a measure of what we individually overcome. Friends help sometimes; although we are lucky should we actually have one good friend and not only some sorry (still jealous) comforters by our side. Edit: I have to add that it is good to note that the way God made a bet with the Devil on Job's faith shows that God does play dice with the universe...beyond cause and effect. I.E. sometimes shit happens.
