I started down that path a couple of weeks ago, and I may have a professional do it. I used a spray bomb of base coat and then a spray bomb of clear. To me it looks uneven and I also got some trash in it. I am also trying to figure out what fastener finish to go with? I like this unique Super Snake billet cap, but I do not want it to "stick out" when viewed, I just want it to blend in. I removed all of the stainless fasteners also so that they can be painted separately. I experimented with one fastener in base coat with shiny clear, one with base coat with flat clear for a slight fastener contrast, then the flat black fastener (since that is what my car is, Torch Red w/Black stripes), and then the other three fasteners are as they came, stainless. I also had some paint that did not seem to stick around one of the fastener holes. I am assuming this door assy. was cleared or anodized when it was made? I am guessing that it may need to be bead blasted to remove the finish and give it a surface for the paint to bite, but then I may etch/ruin the surface? At this point I need to strip it and start over.....but I have set it off to the side while I decide what direction to go. I don't mind paying for it to be done in a real paint shop with a gun, but it will have to have a light touch so that the paint does not get applied too heavy. The only reason I was looking into PC is because of durability........"If" I happen to bump the fuel nozzle on the ring area I was thinking that PC may hold up better and paint would nick. <<That was just my thought. The chances of me nicking it are minimal because I am always careful with the fuel nozzle, but you never know.... I am leaning toward the fastener with the base coat and flat clear just for a slight contrast but still blending in with the correct color and not drawing extra attention. It is a cool door to have on my Super Snake, but I am definitely not into "rice". R
