Whipple Gen-3 Rotor Upgrade for the 2.9L Twin Screw Supercharger

Our friends over at Lethal Performance shared the following information about their New Exclusive Gen-3 Rotor Upgrade for the Whipple 2.9L Twin Screw Supercharger. This upgrade kit sounds like exactly what the twin-screw market has been looking for, and it's going to be very interesting to see how far early adopters will be able to push the performance envelope. Best of all, if you were thinking about pulling the trigger on a new Whipple kit you can get the Gen-3 upgrade for a mere $200 extra. That's a no-brainer in my book. Check out the full details below, and give Lethal Performance a call ordering details.

- Adds up to 30-150 hp/tq at the same boost level

- 10-80*F cooler temps

- New Whipple Crusher SC Housing for increased volumetric efficiency

- Simple bolt-on upgrade to existing Gen 1 and Gen 2 2.9L/W175AXFF superchargers

- $200 add-on upgrade if ordering a complete kit

Whipple Superchargers, known for years of innovation, have now developed the new Gen 3 Whipple 2.9L supercharger that features both updated rotor design and rotor housing to unleash even more power from your engine. The Gen 3 works with nearly all 2.9L Gen 1 and 2 applications and is a simple upper half swap. No tuning required, just more power by increased supercharger efficiency.

Gen 3 features all new 3/5 rotors that feature a new updated rotor profile and new advanced manufacturing methods, allowing more accurate and tighter tolerances along with increased efficiency. Each Gen 3 rotor also features a later generation robotically sprayed conformal rotor coating, allowing the rotor clearance to conform to the operating conditions and application. The Gen 3 also features upgraded double lip PTFE rotor seals for higher RPM, higher temp and higher pressure ratios.

The Gen 3 also features a new rotor housing with the new angled support ribs for a more aggressive appearance, along with revised port shape for increased rotor filling and decreased turbulence, resulting in increased overall supercharger efficiency. What does all this mean? More power, more power, more power while maintaining the same boost levels.

During extensive testing on multiple applications, both Whipple and 3rd party testing found gains from 30RWHP up to 150RWHP depending on blower speed and engine specifications. Standard pump gas applications can easily make another 30RWHP with no other changes. Because boost maintains, tuning is not required. Just bolt on and unleash the power of your stock application.

Each swap kit comes with all the necessary parts/hardware to swap the Gen 2 SC for the Gen 3. No cutting or grinding required.

Current available applications:

2003-2004 SVT Cobra

2007-2014 Shelby GT500

2011-2017 Mustang GT & F150

2010-2014 6.2L Raptor/F150

2006-2018 Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep

Add me to that list. I have the Gen 2 w/ Crusher inlet. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that, on the 30 - 150 HP increase spectrum that was quoted, it's closer to the 30HP side, unfortunately. Thirty more HP across the whole curve would be interesting, but still pricey for the gain.

I'm also beginning to be skeptical on the 150hp claims. If those numbers were true, I would be advertising the hell out of those numbers. But the details on how they got the extra 150 are very vague.

Reading closer it says the 150 is depending on blower speed and engine mods.. please don't tell me the 150hp is them comparing smaller pullied gen 3 with LTs etc, over a bigger pullied gen 2 2.9

Why was only the "over 30hp" number put on the ad if it made over 150?

30hp throughout the power band over the gen 2 is very good actually. But, let's forget about the 150hp at the same boost levels that had us all excited.

I can't even remember where I saw the 150; from lethal?

Sure it's some "due to decreased IATs we increased boost from 1-20psi and saw a 150hp increase!"

Can't recall where I saw the info about it coming with a crusher but the guy at Whipple asked who wrote that.

Sid wrote about the 150 in his op. I can only assume he got that info from either Whipple or Lethal

I'm going to bite the bullet.

Sold my gen 2 2.9 today.. I'm going to wait until the holiday sales but it will be the only thing swapped out.

Air will be much cooler when I have this tuned compared to the gen 2 but we'll see.

I think I'm going to hold out for some all-else-being-equal reviews before I purchase. Somebody slapping on longtubes, injectors, and an E85 tune in conjunction with the Gen 3 install will be useless reviews. I want to see if it's more than just something I could accomplish with my Gen 2 with a smaller pulley swapped on.

The initial Dyno graph posted was performed by Tasca automotive, they are a Whipple dealer but are not directly tied to Lethal or Whipple. The article states that no changes were made to the tune, only the blower swap. I guess the question would be is will it pick up even more power the harder you spin it compared to the gen 2?

I would be hesitant to sell my current 2.9 if I had one but for someone looking for a complete set up the new gen 3 should be a no brainier.

Part of me wishes they hadn't even said anything until it's completion. They released a teaser, then hyped us up...and are only really releasing photos and info on the coyote gen 3 2.9 and leaving us terminator owners in the dark.

i believe terminators gen3 are already shipping. i see no one has really posted about the upgrade from gen2-gen3. Basically since the case and rotors are changed through whipple price is $3900 plus shipping both ways. Best option just sell your old unit and buy the new one.

Wonder what the power difference is between the VMP Gen II and the Whipple 2.9 as im sitting at 755 with the VMP. Wonder if I could get into the 800s with the new 2.9

Whipple is claiming it should do that and more...claiming 30+wheel advantage on pump gas over the previous 2.9 gen 2. I would certainly hope people with bolt ons and a good e85 fuel system would be able to break 800wheel with their claims.
