I take my 04 Cobra to Summit Point and VIR several times a year. During the summer months the engine temp is 105-118 deg C. Normal street operating temp is 88 deg C. Is there any benefit/disadvantage of running a heavier oil, i.e. 20W50 vs. 10W30? My thought was 20W is okay for summer start-ups and the heavier oil (50) would be better for the higher temps and higher engine loads.

Our engines were developed for use with oil. The oil bleed down rate of the valve lash adjusters will not bleed down enough and you could possibly have have valve train problems on the top end. This is taking for granted you have stock springs.
