A friend of mine won the Rolex lotto. Paid msrp for a Hulk at an AD and flipped it for more than double.

Don't pay the current second hand market value for one. IMO. And your chances at getting one at an AD are very, very slim.

My first thought is you guys are all crazy for spending that kind of money on watches, but then I think about all the money I have spent at casinos and I guess I’m the crazy one.

LOL indeed. Lowest I have found it 20 and that seems suspicious.

If you had to bet money which will appreciate in next 10 years:

Hulk
Kermit
Starbucks

@BrunotheBoxer

Starbucks only because it’s newer so it can be found at an AD for msrp but you’re gonna need to get real lucky or build a relationship with one.
Best way to build a relationship is to buy watches from them and spend money. If you were to go in there and tell them you’d be willing to buy a gold Rolex at a discount along with a Starbucks at msrp you will shoot to the top of the list. I personally would never spend over msrp on any watch so if you want one fast that’s gonna cost you double.
Rule of thumb with Rolex. Stainless steel only sports models. You can’t lose if you pay msrp.

Geez, I am simple and just want a datejust with the fluted bezel, blue, slate, white or green face and the oyster band. New it retails for $8300. When I bought my wife’s engagement ring, this watch was $2700(17 years ago). Her ring was $10k And she never bought me the watch. I have looked at them ever since and still want one. Almost bought a tag Caribbean edition while in St. Lucia 5 years ago, it was $2600 and had a blue face with a map of the Caribbean on the face. I suppose I will but the Rolex after selling my stock in the copper mine within the next 2-3 years

I feel like such a schmuck. I passed on kermits and hulks at 12k a year ago because they were too rich then.

In a weird way black faces are a crazy deal. You will pay 10k but you will get what you pay for it no matter what. If you go on Bobs cyclops black face is 10k whether they are 3 years old or 20 years old. So you are not buying a watch you are borrowing it at no cost.

Bro none of us have a crystal ball. We all would have bought dozens of those watches if we did.

Getting into the watch game is dangerous business. I would be embarrassed to tell you how much money and how many watches my dad has bought and traded. He’s had them all. 6 figgah watches.
It’s dangerous because no matter what you buy. You will always want the next one. It never ends.
Don’t get into it for the investment game. There’s better ways to make money than speculating on watches. Best advice is buy the watches you like.
When you start wearing 5 figgah beatah watches you got a problem.
Unless you got megabucks.

ummm are you talking about the bullshit where they send you a $3 watch for $50 a month?

arent there like tiers or something?

Like if you’re in the 100 dollar one you actually get decent shit and someone gets a random Rolex every month

never looked into it, I don't have any interest in having a ton of watches. I've got my apple watch and a decent citizen, I can see adding 2-3 nicer watches tops.

It always amazes me how many people scoff at the idea of a $1,500 watch you can pass down to your grandchildren but don't think twice about buying a new $1,500 cell phone every year.

Which model is that? I’m looking for an everyday watch and that looks nice.

The Rolex sports watches are the ones that everyone is after. Problem is you won’t be able to get one unless your pay over MSRP, something I would never do. Now, the other models are going up in price too. Models like the Explorer, Milgauss and even Oyster Perpetuals have gone up. Here’s hoping my number gets called for a GMT Batman

IMO Tag’s are decent everyday watches. I honestly don’t care what watch snobs have to say about it. I have 3 and they are nice.

Aquaracer
Formula one
Carrera Calibre 5

This is coming from someone who wears a bunch of different watches. Couple Seiko’s, Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, G Shocks, a Shinola etc. i buy watches that look and feel great imo. No other reasons. Eventually i want a Milgauss. Only Rolex i like.

A Grand Seiko is on my short list as well.
