I am thinking about going to some lower profile whee/tire combination for my 2003 Mustang GT but I have a friend who is telling me that when he went to a lower profile aluminum rim/tire he began to have problems within a year. He told me that he was driving along one night and heard a loud "bang" as if he had hit a pothole. When he took it to the shop that told him his right front wheel was bent at where the bead of the tire seats both on the inside and the outside with stress cracks in it, yet the tire was OK without any signs of damage. Is this a likely problem with aluminum wheels with a lower profile tire? I can't imagine how a rim can be damaged from impact without the tire being damaged unless there is some inherent problem.
