Whats up with my voltage?

98 Cobra,
Battery is around 12 but the car only goes to about 13ish when running?

I recharged the battery to full power and it did the same thing.

Have battery in the trunk, using a 2 gauge wire running straight from alternator to battery.

If it was the alternator wouldn't it just stay at 12 volts while running?

When I turn the lights on it goes down alittle more but soon returns to the 13 volt mark.

When I rev it, no change

Pulled pos battery cable off while running and it kept running

When your alternator starts to fail it can put out some low voltages while still keeping the car running. They dont always just stop working.

This isn't really safe to do on modern cars

When you say 13V do you mean 13.0V? I've always head 13.6V is the minimum of "okay" so if you are under 13.6V it sounds like your regulator could be going out.

Yes the voltage bounces around 13.0-13.25, goes alittle lower when the lights are on.
ANy wy to check the regulator?
