ok having been over here for three years ... even as a civilian I am going to have to make some modifications to some of the posts above ... 1. Magazines - DONT send them Maxim, FHM, or STUFF they can get those at the PX before you can get it out here via the mail 2. Cards .. Not unless they ask ... EVERYBODY sends playing cards ... Now if you want to send them a specialty deck i.e. Harley playing cards or mustang, or swimsuit edition .. those would be the exception ... 3. Candy ..this time of year DO NOT SEND CHOCOLATE .. it wont survive the trip. Candy is always a good thing .. but it needs to be able to withstand a fair amount of heat and still be recognizable LOL! 4. Things they can't get out here that they like for example I have my friends/family send me Canned DelMonte Whole Green Beans Can't get good canned food out here .. and the green beans they do have are usually nasty .. so I have some sent out. 5. DVDs are always a good bet ... 6. On the soap/shampoo/conditioner thing find out what brand they use/like and send them that. Care packages from the states almost always has this kind of stuff and it takes a long time to get rid of it sometimes ... what they can't get a lot of times is their preferred brand ... Theses are just some thoughts ... one thing to be sure of ... NOTHING you send will go to waste. Even if you do send something they can't/won't use they will give it away to someone who can or trade it for something they need/want and don't have.
