I just switched to the Amsoil synth. ATF. I really like it. Smoother than whatever was in it before... I think it was Royal Purple.

Don't write-off Royal Purple. They have a newer improved Max ATF. I'll be pouring it in soon and reinstalling the trans. I'm running Amsoil in the motor for the second year. Ran R.P. XPR before. Which is better? not sure, motor seems to perform the same. I don't check gas mileage.

Did the Amsoil synthetic ATFabout 2k ago and it made an immediate improvement in shifting as opposed to the Castrol ATF. I've become a believer of Amsoil products.

+1 on the quantity, never had a manual for mine.

Also, does anyone have experience with ordering fluids online? I'm stationed in Italy and they don't have ANY selection here.

Tranny fluid is semen/duck butter (although is usually a semi-solid). There are actually all types of ejaculates involved here.

Transmission fluid is what you are wanting to know about.

Royal Purple Synchromax (part #01512, quart bottle); 4.1 quarts;

Or if you don't want to spend the money for a premium synthetic performance fluid, any Mercon/Dexron III spec ATF will work, and meet OE minimum specs.(not the new Dexron VI)

I have had Synchromax in my T56 since 2005, and love it.
Also run it in my 2004 SVT Focus Getrag 6 speed.:thumbsup:
It is quieter, has a smoother shift feel and has way better film strength and protection than any other fluid that I am aware of that is appropriate for this trans.
