I'm looking at getting some new wheels and tires and was hoping for recommendations on tires to best suit 18x10 wheels.

Most of my use is street and maybe once a month at the drag strip, I'm not unhappy with the F1's but wonder what would best suit the 18x10 size for the rear and 18x9's on teh front.

I have seen many posts on Nitto & BFG tires but they are mostly based on fit on a 17" wheel.

Just hoping to get some suggestions/recommendations.

Thanks

FYI.....18's are very hard to get traction with and IMO, unless you are going just for less, you might be unhappy. I have a set of 18's with 295 gsc's(goodyear) in the rear, and they simply go up in smoke. Maybe someone with a different tire can help, but this is my experience.

you're gonna have problems with traction on street tires. you just have to learn how to drive your car. it has a lot of power with no mods. just take it easy on the launch and you shouldn't have much spin. i ran 12.30s on 295 toyos.

no lead feet when racing

18x9, 18x10 seems to be the prevailing aftermarket wheel size. How wide are the tires you wish to purchase? Offhand, I consider the Michelin Pilot Sports and the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDs to be top-notch choices...

Did you run that 11 sec 1/4 mile with your 18's on? Are they 18X9 ro 18X10.5? Just curious. I have 18X9's with Toyos and they spin all through first. Just wondering if I should try any different tires for better traction. I don't have my pulley on yet so I can only imagine how bad it will be then.

I was looking at 275/35/18 for the front and maybe 295/35/18 for the rear. Maybe wider for the rear, 295 or 315.
So, is there a consensus that the wider tires have less traction or is that specific to particular tires?
And are you talikng about the track or street?

There are not many tires for 18 inch rims. There are no drag radials available. If I were you I'd get the 18X10.5 03 Cobra rims. I only have 18X9 and they do not get good enough traction. At the time of purchase there were no 18X10 or 10.5 Cobra rims out yet.

i think if you do the 315s you might have a problems with clearance(that bolt mod) i'm not sure,i've just notice everyone running 315 or larger performs this mod.

Supposively 275 on a 18X9 rim is the biggest you can put on the front especailly if it is lowered. I am going to try 295 next time anyways just to see if it will work. That way I will have the rear tired the same as the front and can actually rotate them after I whip a few nuts.

The setup so far appears to be looking this way.

18x10 Wheels Back with BFG 295/35/18 Tires
18x 9 Wheels Front with BFG 265 /35/18 Tires

Anyone see any problems with this setup?

No problem. I'd put 275 up front though. They will fit. That is what I have up front. I'd also go with 315 in the rear if they have that size in the tires you want.

That was my intention and my preference but I havent seen that they make the BFG T/A KD in that size?

From what I've seen, to put on a 275 I might have to go to a different brand and have a mixed set? Not sure I want that but maybe?

I would not mix tire brands. Stick to one brand. You will be plenty happy with your original idea. 18X10's are plenty fat with 295.

I don't think theres a 315 in 18" tire sizes.

I've heard of a 305 for 18" rims, but have no luck finding them on tirerack.com or discounttiredirect.com etc.......

The sizes that work well with our suspension and also in modified form-

Wheel determines some combinations- Assume 18x9.5....

265/40/18 front and rear
265/35/18 front and rear
275/35/18 front and rear
285/35/18 front and rear
285/30/18 front and rear
295/35/18 rear
305/30/18 rear (depending on wheel size you might need the button bolt, they fit fine on the Cobra "R" wheel)

I have used the 275/35/18 and 295/35/18 combination among others on this car and it works very well. However, it is not an ideal setup for the drag strip as you will break the rears loose through second with a modded car. I probably would have settled on 285/35/18s at all four corners with a 18x9.5 wheel. I would not go below a 275/35/18 on the front unless you ran the 265/40/18 setup.

Bingo 13,
With regard to your above notes, are you using the same wheel size front and back? 18x10 or 18x9 or 18x9.5 ???

The wheel I'm looking at is only available in18x10 and 18x9.

I realise this may only be my opinion but I see the front wheels/tires at 275 being wide enough for the front, and I was mainly hoping to get that extra width on the back to make it balance out better.

Hi,

I was using 18x9.5 Cobra "R" wheels. The 275 on the 18x9 and 295 on the 18x10 will work great.

later...

I don't think I could run a 15.0 with the 18's......First was a joke, second pretty much smoke too. They were on 18x9's. My 11.xs were all on 275 bfg dr's......I would never....ever....EVER take the 18's to the track..There would be absolutely no point and, IMO, be dangerous as well. Ever get sideways at 60 plus?? It is NO fun....I could bust the 295's in third.....I actually tried to race a Talon on a deserted road and was behind by 5 car lengths trying to get traction......did not catch up until I hit 4th....That is the time when I almost lost the car in 3rd(I shifted hard into 3rd, after short shifting 1 and 2)....That combo came off the next day.....You would be very careful with the new combo and drive accordingly until you learn the new limit. I didn't try other tires, but the differnece between the stock 17's and the wider 295's(Goodyear) was dramatic......BTW, according to SVT, 18 inch wheels were considered, but the car "handled" better with 17's.
