In late 2011 I was 26, about a year and a half married, a year into a new job making good money with a $400 mortgage, with a newly pregnant wife when the itch for an upgrade to my ‘99GT hit me. I was torn hard between a low mileage 03/04 Cobra or a new 5.0. My wife and I were hanging out at the in-laws house one day, I was flipping through a 2012 Mustang brochure when I jokingly said I really want a Shelby over a GT. Dead shit serious my wife said then just do it if it’s what you want. (My budget immediately went from ~30k to upper 40s) I didn’t want to buy one off the lot (and wanted a few months to save up a big down payment) so I decided to wait until the following summer to buy. As it turns out, Ford announced the changes from ‘12 to ‘13. Excited is an understatement. Talked to a handful of dealers, most sort of blew me off for being relatively young or generally not interested in paying the $2,000 SVT fee. Bob Thomas in Fort Wayne said okay, you’re fourth on our list. Fast forward to March of ‘12 I got a call from the salesman while I was in Atlanta for work asking if I was still interested in the allocation as the first three dudes were just blowing smoke. Again, very excited. Once they said no ADM, I made my deposit and got the order placed as soon as I got home. First born son made his arrival May 4th, and the car showed up May 18th of 2012. Got a call that Friday before noon and spent the rest of the work day providing absolutely no value to my employer. 10 year anniversary yesterday.
