Good day everyone,

I'm looking at getting a transmission for my coyote swap build looking for something smooth and good for cruising.

Thinking of getting tremec TKX but is it worth shelling out an additional 700 big ones for a T56 magnum.

Although I'm no expert but looking through I see a lot of talk about spline numbers and gearing. I just was wondering how to go about choosing the right tranny and spline number and gearing.

Your help is very much appricated into making this build a reality

What car is this going in?
Any power adders?
The "go to" is a T56 Mag, but yes they are pricey. I think it just depends on the budget and purpose. A standard T56 is a good option also if you dont need the extra spline count. Mine is NA so i opted for a standard T56 instead of the MAG.

My plan is to build a coyote swapped '88 foxbody mustang. My aim is to have this car a street crusier with a nice kick if that makes sense. For power it is going to be NA nothing fancy.

Having the extra splines how would it impact drivability of the car.

Get a T56 Magnum and don't look back. I put over 1k hp through mine for a long time, and it worked flawlessly.

Id go TKX. Shifts great, holds power, lighter than a magnum, and cheaper to boot. The input shaft spline is going to be 26 on a TKX or Magnum. Stock or older Tremec stuff had a 10 spline which isn't as strong. Spline count makes no difference to how it operates.

I originally went with the TKX on my swap. The install was smooth and simple, but with [emoji[emoji6]]’s and tons of interstate driving I felt like I needed [emoji6]th gear.

I wish I had went T[emoji6][emoji6] Magnum to start with - in the long run it would have been cheaper. The T[emoji6][emoji6] Magnum appears to shift smoother too. What you pick depends on what you want. If you are debating this - just go T[emoji6][emoji6].

if you do go magnum dont run the POS red base shifter from Tremec as it's highly likely it will start leaking eventually when the seal fails. Any shifter work with the magnum means dropping the transmission.
