Never driven in a vert before. Never wanted one and generally avoided them.

Now at age 41, i really do want a convertible Mustang to cruise around with wife and kiddos. I might get an Sn95 or newer however. I love the foxbody, but I think i need some diversity in my life.
Do it! They're at least fun some of the time.

I've only owned one convertible in my lifetime, and it definitely wasn't a Mustang. :( It was a 1968 Impala convertible almost identical to the one in the photo below. Same exterior color, with black interior, column shift and bench front seat. The engine was a 307 cu. in. V8 (200 bhp) which barely got that boat moving with the 2-speed Powerglide transmission. The family had occasional fun (kids loved it) with the top down but all in all, not a great owner's experience.

What a great idea/project. Looks very professional. Well done!!
Thanks, been meaning to post up pics of the other work done, relatively recently.
In the spirit of this thread.........

At a car show couple years back and a little kid wanted to know why everything was so dirty? UGH!!, so that had to be fixed. Had put a turbo kit in over 20 years ago, guess everything in there was getting kind of ugly

I was always against them as well. First time last week driving with the top down, and it was awesome.

Plan on bringing our little Addy for a ride.

Had GT and LX convertibles back in my early 20's, lost interest in them over the years but really wouldn't mind having another. Back then it didn't matter what the temperature was, the top was always down. Now it would have to be perfect weather or i'd just leave it up lol.

Got the rear put back in my car yesterday. As you can see it's still a dirty mess though. Plan was to get the rear back from the builder in time to clean/paint everything at one time, meaning the rear and under the car. He had it waaay longer than he should have, that's my fault I guess for telling him to take his time. Gave to him in the beginning of January and got it back in May. Anyway, just want to get it back on the road for summer at this point, just need the brakes done and it's ready.

Wow, what a huge difference. A LOT of work, but the end result is impressive. Where's that kid? LOL.

That kid is probably in college now, as long as my projects take.:)

Anyway, tore it down to the short block. Like many older fox 5.0's, still
had a decent amount of original X-hatching.

IMG_0676.JPG

Made a couple of "solid" lifters for figuring out pushrod length, painted them blue so I knew not to use them later on.

IMG_0808.JPG

Grabbed a new set of TW170's and started figuring out valvetrain. This was the best pattern I could get.
(6.750" pushrod length)

6.750%20IMG_0857.JPG

Also made a plate that mounted to head so I could use a dial indicator, see what actual valve lift was vs pushrod length. Was my first time setting up a valvetrain to this extent, and of course I had to over think it. Learned a lot. (like no factory Ford pedestal head in the 5.0 HO era, has anywhere near correct rocker arm geometry).

IMG_0859.JPG

Had the crank polished, machinest claimed it didn't need anymore than that, but had a small groove where the rear main goes.

IMG_0922.JPG

Used one of those thin sleeves that goes over the seal surface.

IMG_0924.JPG

IMG_0927.JPG

Got a lot of parts painted up

IMG_0668.JPG

IMG_0669.JPG

IMG_0683.JPG

and got a front mount intercooler setup and piping done (with PMS blow through MAF).

IMG_1463.JPG

Made a tool for crimping ends of alum IC tubing.

IMG_1498.JPG

worked pretty good.

IMG_1502.JPG

Wanted everything "stealth", so painted lower IC pipes and IC, satin black.

IMG_1604.JPG

IMG_1605.JPG

Also made a custom fenderwell mount air cleaner and tubing.

Took it for the first drive in a little over 2.5 years. I'd have to say the highlight of the drive was doing it with functional AC!

Still a few kinks to work out. Brakes need more bleeding and I need to finish the alignment so it was only a short ride around the block for now.

Just curious, but what Grp battery does the 87+ foxes use stock?

Can't get 56 anymore and I can't get the 87+ battery tray in my Capri. I got one to fit in my fox LTD on drv's side, but due to turbo, I have battery on pass side in Capri. Guess I might have to fab up my own battery tray when this last 56 dies (7 years old now, but still going).

Hadn't touched the lifelong Fox project in a couple years. I ground the rivet heads off the front fender flares I bonded on eons ago and started blending with some reinforced glass.

I think silver 17" would look perfect on that car. Even i've tossed the idea around of getting a set to get that clean OEM look, but I like my current wheel setup too much.

I initially wanted chrome. But I agree, I think silver would look great .
