Well it was sorta today... I left MA yesterday morning and drove 1,106 miles straight down to my other home in GA! I had originally planned to trailer down, but a bunch of things happened and it didn’t work out, so I decided to just drive it! Hit 18,000 on this trip, and did pretty much the entire thing with the top down because it was such a nice fall day. I only had the top up for the last couple of hours early this morning. I was awake for 24 hours and spent a good deal of that driving. It sucked doing the trip alone, but I couldn’t think of a more fun vehicle to do the trip with than a Whippled convertible Terminator! I was super nervous because I generally only put a few hundred miles a year on it (if that), so I had concerns about the reliability being that it’s modded. I had my whole airplane cockpit of gauges set up to monitor all the important stuff though, and it didn’t miss a beat. IATs climbed a bit during a couple of traffic jams on the highway, but the coolant temp stayed awesome. The highest it got was 206, the rest of the time on the highway it stayed right at 200. I was concerned about putting that much mileage on it, but my wife said “who are you saving it for?” She said “do you really think 1,100 extra miles is going to diminish its value?” Then the final straw was when she told “if you die, I’m just going to sell it anyway!”. At that moment I realized she was right, because someone else would just enjoy the car that I put so much time, money, and effort into, while I just preserved it for them! I did put the full bra on the front to at least protect it from sand/rock chips anyway.
