That's where I am kinda lucky I don't have to pay for anything except clear coat and that's cause I don't want to use the brand the shop uses..
We use all r&m paint at my shop I like there base coat but not there clears..

I use a DuPont clear on all my cars or any side jobs I do.

r&m has very good coverage compared to other lines and I have sprayed almost all of them..
It covers fast and has very good color match for collision repair..

As for the tri coat it really depends on the car I'm repairing as to how many coats of mid coat I have to use

The average is 2 coats base for coverage
And 2-3 coats mid coat most fords are 2 and nearly all gm cars are 3-4

I think the only color that I hate to spray and I don't care what brand it is.. Is any red they are always so transparent..

What state do u live in do u guys have to have a waterborne system.. We haven't had to switch yet and I've heard mixed reviews on it
+1 about red, it doesn't cover for crap. :(

I live in Massachusetts. We don't "have" to use waterborne yet, but my boss put in the system so we can start using it and be prepared for when the mandatory switch takes effect. It's just a matter of time now.
I'm not a huge fan of it personally. It doesn't cover all that well, and it takes forever to dry. Especially in humid weather. Carrying around the air blowers is a PITA. Sometimes you think it's dry, you go to tack off the panel to lay down your next coat and the tack rag leaves marks because it isn't completely dry underneath. We almost never use it unless none of the paint chips in the solvent system look good to what we're spraying.
It's okay if you're at a shop where you're only spraying one or two cars a day, but if you're working in a high production shop where car's need to be in and out of the booth fast, forget about it. I'm dreading the day we can't use solvent anymore. :cryying:

Ya that's what I hear is that the waterborne dry times are slow unless u have a infrared heating system.
And that shit is not cheap.

It's not mandatory in ohio here yet either.. Hoping it doesn't come in to play for a long time..
There are some shops that have it all already and that's all they use..
No thanks though..
