Twin turbo your mustang they said. It will run great they said. Yea, so much for that. I had this weird issue where if I got on the car one in 4th or 5th gear, it would be rich, 10.1-10.3 AFR's, but then if you let off and hit it again, it would go to like 13.0. I would immediately let off of it, but someone told me that my wideband sensor was prob just delayed and the AFR's shouldn't be changing. So last night it hit 13.0 and I swear, I missed it for only a second, but that was it. Ton of smoke out the back, running on 7 cylinders, game over. And when I say ton of smoke, I mean TONS of smoke. She's laid up now and I don't have the time or resources to fix it right now. It still runs and starts up so it's not completely trashed. Just needs a nice set of forged internals. So FML. Now she's up for sale. I'm not giving it away though. If it doesn't sell, I will just leave it laid up until I can afford to do a short block. And that ends my rant. Good thing I have a reliable daily beater. Edit 11/12/13 Car is now apart at JPC. Turns out #5 piston melted and #8 cracked a ring land. Block is no good for boost because I don't want to bore it. It can be bored to 0.20 over though. If anyone wants it for cheap, let me know. Here's #8 I can't swing replacing the block and building it so I think a Boss short block is in my future. Billet oil pump gears, ARP heads, cometic gaskets and boss valve springs. That and a fuel system. 600whp on pump and 800whp on ethanol and I should be good to go.
Damn that's tough man. Are you sure the motor is done? Possibly something to do with the turbo oiling? I've read some stuff about needing restricters bc of high oil pressure. Maybe a blown seal on one?
That blows man. I wouldn't try to sell with a broken piston... people are going to want to give you pocket change for it compared to what's worth.
Yea I'm sure. It's running on 7 cylinders. Oil leaked out to the ground already, prob from the head/header connection or or something. Gallons of smoke coming out.
I can't fault where the tune came from. It was a base map. I really shouldn't have went WOT on it at all.
This. I know on a lot of turbo cars, we had put n2o jets in the line to lower the pressure, works like a charm. we thought we blew a motor on the dyno but it was just the turbos smoking.
If it's only running on 7 cylinders then it's not a turbo issue unfortunately. This sucks... I've been down this road before and it's not any fun. Good luck with it man, if I had some spare change and an appetite for another project I'd pick it up from you.
It is what it is. I posted it up so if it goes I'll just take a break and pay off some debt before I start another project.
Honestly u shouldn't floor it then let off then floor it again...the ecu sometimes reverts to stock stoich levels.i learned the hard way also
I mean this wasn't something I was doing on purpose. It was just like lets say I was on it, and then had to let off thinking I was going to have to slow down or something, then I realized I didn't have to slow down so got on it again.
