the next time it showed LMR, which makes much more sense. What the hell would I have been looking at that would want me to check into KY? It's my work computer, so no PORN. My browser history should be SVTP, SRTHC, craigslist auto. WTH.

Well, you clicked on a link for volvo.

So much disdain for Volvo in this thread... :(

My little '08 S40T5 has been a champ for the most part. It's like a watered down M3. A buddy of mine with a Turbo-brick yanked off the vacuum/boost reference line from the wastegate and cobbled up a home-made boost controller. That was one pissed-off little 240.

I guess my issue is that with Volvo, they have priced themselves to the level where I would be cross-shopping them against Mercedes, Cadillac, BMW and Audi now. I just don't look at them at that level, even though they may be at that level, or better.

Well it shouldn't be much of a surprise, this is a forum dedicated to superlative American Iron, specifically Fords. Though admittedly they have turned out some really nice cars over the years. I had a rental while on a business trip to PA years ago, think it was a V60 wagon. The wagon was of course nice and surprisingly fun to drive, loved dropping the hammer around the cloverleaf interchanges with the AWD.

I think they have gotten there in all honesty, like Caddy they have been on a upscale luxury re-branding crusade for a few years.

I get that, but if someone rolls up to me and says "I just got a new Mercedes", I think, "Very nice!".

Same guy rolls up and says, "I just got a new Volvo", I think, "cool man, good on you". It's like SAAB used to be. Just not what I'm looking for when looking to spend $50K + on a luxury car.

true and I think Volvo has a lot more to overcome than caddy did. If I were ever in the market for a foreign luxury car, I'd probably look at them, but for that kind of money, its hard to pass up Merc|BMW.

I have no idea why anyone would even look at a Lincoln. That is another one that for the same money you can have a car that is nicer and better in ever aspect.

A fully optioned continental is "only" 20k cheaper than a base s class?

What do you consider base? Are you wanting to compare an S65 to a continental. Pretty sure you'll find the luxury to be more luxurious in a "base" S class than a full pop Continental.

I'm not saying a base s-class doesn't include anything, but I imagine not many will be sold at base price. Obviously I wasn't saying a base s-class is no better than a base fusion. I was commenting on your price comparison. The two don't occupy the same market in any way, shape, or form.

When you have $90K to spend, an S or a 7 series will still be in the shopping comparison. Just checked on the lot. S class base price is $96. Nicely optioned was $109.

The top of the line Black Label Continental bases at $63k so I dont think $90k is where you will end up in one loaded out. I believe the Navigator will probably end up in the $80k range loaded out though which will put it in Escalade territory. For what you are getting the Lincolns are pretty well priced.

As far as Volvo goes, the big difference is in the 2017s and up. When you see a new XC90 on the street it stands out like a Range Rover or Merc does. They make really good power too from what I recall.

Who buys Volvo anyway? Not car people unless maybe an old V70R wagon or S60R or the super old school Volvo cars. New Volvos have been boring for a long time.
