Used 2.3 tvs for $3500, or brand new Whipple 2.3 for $3600?

I know the tvs is generally held in higher regard within this community, but is the driving experience that much better that it justifies paying basically the same price for a used 2.3 unit instead of a new 2.3 Whipple?

Also, if the tvs is truly that much more fun and buying used is the answer, is there anything I need to specifically look for when purchasing a used blower?

Thank you for taking the time to help!

Make sure you're not comparing apples to oranges in this example. Most higher priced TVS's are setup with the GT500 inlet, if the throttlebody is included in the used setup then by far the TVS is the way to go. The GT500 TB is the smoothest, best idling, normal cruise control function TB I've owned for one of these cars, it obviously flows more air over the other SBTB's for the 2.3 Whipple.

The 2.3 TVS offers a removable inlet which in my opinion is worth its weight in gold. It also has way more pulley options than the whipple as well. The GT500 throttlebody is just icing on the cake.

Whipple from a technology/physics stand point is a better blower. TVS is just very heavily advertised on this and people believe what the commercials tell them to believe.

2.3 TVS will walk all over the 2.3 Whipple. This is not up for debate, it's the facts.

Do you have hard data to back up your claim? if you do please post it. dyno sheets, 1/4 mile times ect. Best would be same car with both blowers in the same weather conditions.

You are never going to find a same day comparison between 2 blowers, no one has ever done that. If you look at all the quickest small blower cars of any combo (Auto/T-56, IRS/SRA) the TVS is quicker.

Even people with 2.3 Whipples know the TVS is a more capable blower. It's not even up for debate, TVS makes more power.

The problem is everyone that jumped from the Whipple to the VMP changed other things as well. I remember someone on here swapped blowers and said the VMP added XX power and dropped XX time off his quarter mile. Problem was he left out that he added 3 or 4 pounds of boost and long tubes with the VMP. So that killed that comparison.

Similar sized blowers will produce similar power numbers at similar boost numbers. That's from dealing with people with different set ups.

Unless you are going to compare 2 blowers on the same car on the same dyno you are talking through your ass. Without hard numbers from a reliable source you have no real evidence.

As stated above, a 2.3 TVS with the same size pulley on the same engine run on the same dyno will make very similar numbers as 2.3 whipple. A 2.3L supercharger moves 2.3 Liters of air per rotation, it doesn't matter whose name is on the side of it.

Can we also take into account the fact that the 2.3 whipple has progressed to the gen 3 rotors?

I feel like there’s a lot of talk and comparisons between the 2.3 tvs and the old 2.3 whipple.. hasn’t the whipple tech improved?

You have a valid point, a gen3 is going to be more efficient than a gen2 I assume although I don't have any hard data to prove that.

Sorry to hijack your thread btw.

This is correct. The problem is there is zero fair comparisons.

You would need same car same mods. With just a blower swap and maybe slight tuning changes.

Also would need to be at same boost, gen 3 vs tvs.

I think you need to go back and read my posts again. I never said pound for pound this or same pulley combo that. I said that the 2.3 TVS is a more capable blower compared to the 2.3 Whipple. I went on further to say that all the quickest ET's for any combo you will not find the 2.3 Whipple on those lists.......just the TVS. This is an all out application, not pulley or combo limited.

So I reiterate........the 2.3 TVS is a more capable blower compared to the 2.3 Whipple. And I am not talking out of my ass I have plenty of my own timeslips to prove it.

Nice! I've been waiting for someone to post up results from the gen3 2.3 whipple. Go ahead, post up your dyno sheet, timeslips, and driving impressions from that blower.

Has Whipple done something to improve the inlet on the 2.3? I remember years ago people said the crusher wasn't worth it on a 2.3 Whipple, but the 2.3 TVS has proven that it gains with the GT500 inlet over the original SBTB setups. I'd assume if the 2.3 Whipple gen 3 has more power potential a crusher type option would be necessary.

I believe the only improvement to the gen 3 Whipple is the new gen 3 rotors. I talked to someone at Whipple a few years ago and he told me that they were working on a new case design. Not sure if they are still working on it or decided not to proceed with it.

The 2.3 tvs will feel way better down low. Hard to decide between that and the 2.3 whipple. But once you start with the 2.9, 3.0 whipples, they are hands down better. I believe vmp stopped there 3.1 L blower bc they werent making any power with it. wasn't what they expected so justin stopped. If you want a big blower, whipple hands down.
