Tune questions - emissions tests not completing

Couple of questions about tunes and ecm - 2010 GT500

I have the classic issue of three monitors not completing...Oxygen sensor heater, oxygen sensor monitor and catalyst sensor. All other tests completed and no error codes and no check engine light after driving 1000+ miles since Gen2R budget kit (2.5" pulley) installation with BAP. I asked VMP to check their original tune send to me since it is now on the car. Completely stock exhaust still. Scanner shows 23 engine starts and 1700km since last DTCs cleared.

Question: Can any parts of the original stock tune cause this issue even after the VMP tune is loaded onto the ECM in the car? Both tunes load and will start the car with no errors...but I ask this because when I save my stock tune to my PCs it saves but gives me a message - saved but with errors - check the error log -- wherever the hell that is??

Next Question: With one of my scanners I can see the voltage readings changing from the O2 sensors while running and I can see the cat temp (490C ??). So I know the connections to them are all hooked up. Would I still be able to see them even if the tuner somehow disabled these functions in the supplied tune?

    Thanks

Are you in California? If so, you will not pass the ready codes portion of emissions testing with a VMP tune in your car , period.

I see you're in NY. I'm not sure if emissions there are the same as in California, but I believe VMP turns the rear o2 sensors off in the tune, so the readiness codes won't all go green. In California (which I believe is the same) you need to pass inspection and obd2 port plug in for readiness codes. 6 codes total I believe.

When I had that same VMP2R KIT, I had to put all the stock airbox stuff back on with the stock tune back in. I left just the vmp supercharger on. I drive the car around (staying out of boost) for about 10 miles or so. I. He checked the readiness codes with a $10 tester I bought from Amazon. Once all 6 were good, I drove to smog place and passed first try. Of course I had stuck a small Shelby badge over the VMP logo on the supercharger and it worked or the technician didn't care. But, either way, it worked.

I have since moved on to a Kenne Bell kit with CARB EO number so I no longer have to deal with any of that.

Ya, probably the tune, especially if you've got the OEM exhaust still hooked up. Lemme know if you figure it out, got 2 of my monitors that won't complete as well with a custom tune. I'm LT's and no cats, don't mind putting cats or an airbox back on but really don't wanna mess with the LT's.

I spend hours trying to get the tests to pass with the tune from my tuner...no go....

I put the original VMP tune back on that came with the Gen2r budget kit that they had customized for my car with no data logging. Not a good running tune but it was their first pass just to get it running and I never bothered to datalog for them for a better tune. Car runs just sucky power wise at low rpm and bad idling.

I used my scanners and used the Autotap handout and drive around for two + hours following some of the individual testing requirements. I was able to get all tests to complete except for the EVAP but I think they would have completed too after more run time and startups (the EVAP test had completed with the tuners tune so it probably would have eventually completed with the VMP tune. I was driving around at temps at 40-42 F so that is barely marginal for some of the tests to run.

I know in NY you are allowed one test to be incomplete and still pass the emissions so I took it to Jiffy lube and prayed - late Sunday as they were closing. They inspected the engine, pulled front tire (I watched and they were really careful with the rim) and ran OBD tests. They saw the VMP SC but it did not make a difference. All that NY state and these test places care about are basically brakes and passing emissions test via the OBD. They do not do tailpipe testing...but I was told that is an option if OBD is an issue??? NY state is computerized in inspection and testing....VIN has to be read on windows registration to start testing and OBD reading must match up before computer will pass or fail the car. I don't think there is any way to manipulate or trick the systems nowadays to get a bad car to pass in NY. CA may be even more stringent. I don't think aftermarket parts really matter in NY....it is all based on whether or not you can pass those OBD tests and basic road worthy tests. Of course you can still get tickets from troopers for loud mufflers.

Inspection guy didn't even tell me about the one inc that I knew about...they may not even know it if the state computer passes it. I did see them actually use a torque wrench to adjust my wheel and told me to re-torque in 3 days to 100 ft-lbs. That is a first and they even got the ft lbs right!!! I always recheck my wheels.

Put the tuners tune back on for now and back to normal. At least I know how to pass my tests with these parts installed.

I would contact vmp and have them give you a updated tune with all emissions / switches turned "ON". As long as you have the stock midpipe and all sensors hooked up everything should turn ready.

I will say that if you are running after market cats you may need to install defoulers with the rear o2's. Reason being most after market hi flow cats don't remove enough of the harmful emissions to satisfy the rear 02's.

I had this same problem on my 2010 with a VMP tune. They swore up and down the emissions were turned on in their tune, but after they double checked, they realized they weren't on. Sent me a new tune, bam, problem solved.

My VMP tune is what saved me....my tuners tune afterwards on his duno is what failed the tests. I think he has it turned off somehow but he said he would look at my tune in the spring once I am back on the road. I remember him saying he pulls the O2 sensor to install his WB (he doesn't use tailpipe reading) and turns off some of the readings for the dyno tests.

I'm just happy its good until 2022 now. NY troopers are everywhere and pulling everyone over - trying to recoup money from when the state was closed earlier this year. Like I said this is a NAZI state. CA and NJ probably are not much better.

How do you like the KB it? I ordered a KB 2.8LC complete kit for the same reason as you, damn emissions here in Colorado are tough. I lost the emissions battle with my 2.9 Whipple 2012 GT last year. I don't want to go through that again.

If VMP does start to build CARB kits, they will sell a ton of them.

^yeah for sure. Main reason I'm looking at KB is emissions.

Let's hope this happens. Hopefully complete kits because in Ca, NY its getting very hard during smog time.

That's quite the process to get 50 state CARB certified. I bet it will be awhile before it's on the market.

I haven't received it yet, they're building the kit now. I had one on my last Shelby and I loved it.

I ordered mine right after Thanksgiving, still waiting too. I called them today and they said I still have 2-3 more weeks before it's done. Which kit did you order?

I ordered the 2.8 liquid cooled. From what I was told, they source some of the parts, and due to Covid, the parts were taking time to get to them.
