Hi all, i have a 1996 cobra that has a rattle type noise coming from what I think is the bellhousing area. The noise is present at approximately 2100-2400 rpms and seems to get quieter as the car warms up. I initially thought it was the lash adjusters, which I changed and there was no difference after I was done. I inspected the chain, the best I could, while the valve covers were off and there wasn't any slack in the chains. I removed the drive belt today and listened with a long bar and could not hear any noises coming from the cover. I then put the bar to the inspection cover area on the tranny and I believe I heard the noise coming from there. Possibly the throw out bearing or sleeve? Any help would be appreciated!!

I am dealing with the same noise. Except mine seems to get louder as the car accelerates. Only here it when the clutch pedal is in. I can let it coast and never hear it. But as soon as its in gears It comes back. Almost sounds like im dragging a bell underneath the car. Someone with a similar issue said that it turned out to be the dust cover on the tranny. So im going to try that next before I put a new clutch and everything in.

Are you using stock or aftermarket clutch/flywheel/pilot? Is the sound experienced while in gear, neutral or both? Does having the pedal in or out make a difference?

All stock. The sound is made while in gear accelerating and while in neutral. Having the clutch in does not seem to make a difference. Really convinced that the noise is coming from the tranny.
