I have a 2011 Shelby GT500 that has the 1st to 2nd grind at higher rpm's shift. I have seen some older forums where shifters, oil brands, and repairs from the dealer has helped. I have taken my car to the dealer today, and they said there's not any TSB's on the issue. They said I may have to pay 100.00 for diagnostic if they find it not to be internal in the trans. This car has 25k miles and is bone stock. I have seen the video where Ford says the have corrected the issue in the 2013's. Any advise on this??
To shift this piece of shit they call a transmission 1) let off throttle completely 2)once throttle is completely off then press clutch to floor 3) once clutch is completely to floor then shift. Once this transmission gets hot it will go into second okay but then it locks you out of third on a quick 2-3. I blew a hole in my bell housing with my clutch, put a magnum xl in my 12 and never looked back. its not the quietest tranny but it shifts well. Ford should be ashamed and that jamal hamidi idiot should be fired.
Hot Rod magazine mentions this TR-6060 1-2 shift issue in this months issue............. http://www.fordgt500.com/forums/5-g...hot-rod-mag-says-tr6060-2nd-gear-problem.html R
I knew this has been discussed in the past, I didn't remember how long ago, but Hot Rod talking about it now, many years later? That was interesting........ I wonder if Hot Rod also had some information about this back in 2011? R
They're replacing several parts in the tranny, including the gear for second. Hopefully she'll shift like it should when they're done.
Not likely. Do yourself a favor and while they have it down order a MGW2 shifter and pay the tech a few extra dollars to install it in place of the factory POS. Then once you leave the dealer drain the fluid and put Amsoil in it's place. Mine still didn't shift they way I wanted so I went with the longer shaft and eventually the 07-09 knob.
Is Hot Rod discussing this again? From the post of 3/15/11 he says the new Hot Rod issue is discussing this problem. From my understanding that would mean the May 2011 issue. Did they bring it up again?
That is what I was thinking, but I also didn't realize that someone dredged that up from 2011, my mistake.............. R
For what its worth. I had Ford rebuild my trans. Then I put billet shift bushings and AmsOil in. Only grinds I've had since are on a cold trans. I would loved to do a MGW2, but just didn't have the cash.
Here is a youtube video of Jamal Hameedi talking about the transmission and shifter upgrade in the 2013 GT500. Trans talk starts at 3:18. 2013 Shelby GT500 Details from SVT
^yep seen it. We used to or still have a Ford rep on this site. She wasn't much help. She did instruct me to take a driving class.
I believe Whiteline makes a transmission mount stiffener for the 11/12s http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_detail4.php?part_number=KDT928&sq=4147. CHE makes a engine torque limiter https://www.cheperformance.com/collections/2011-2014-mustang-parts-1/products/che7la . Those might help.
I went by the dealership today and spoke with the tech and asked him if he would install the MGW shifter if I brought it to him, and told him I would slide him 50 bucks. He said sure, and don't worry about the money. Great idea!!!
Kohr Motorsports sells billet bushings with the stiffer rubber mount. I installed on my Shelby and it made a big difference. I was getting 1-2 grind all the time, now I only get it if I pull shifter towards me. There is a video on YouTube of a guy that installed them and he is doing 7000rpm shifts. I tried to paste video but it wouldn't copy.
The only thing that helped was the MGW2. I never ran Amsoil, I think I have Royal Purple in there right now, but mine never grinded terribly unless I tried to power shift it or shift it extremely fast at high RPM. It still sucks that you have to slow down your driving techniques for the dam thing to "catch up" though.
Yep, I think the Ford service rep may have left the site because she didn't want to deal with our complaints.
