Pretty sure it was initially brought up by a tech who made a video as he was working on it and said it's been a big problem with the new engines. It was one that @Weather Man posted I believe. I was piggbacking off that with what I had seen.

Definitely not saying youre wrong, im only saying it's a personal anecdote from that guy at this point.

I searched the interwebs and couldnt find anything relating to lots of head gasket failures.

I thought there was a TSB or FCA document on it, but I may be thinking of the issues with the Toyota 3.4. Fair enough.

Straight 6's have an inherently smooth nature due to the even firing order. They are also incredibly strong, most of them having between 5 and 7 main bearings. Being twin turbo, this motor will be a tuners dream. I believe Berger Motorsports (JB4) got an additional 100whp out of their piggyback on a new Hurricane putting it close to 600whp.

Hellcat makes that stock though. The Hurricane is only a 3.0l engine, you're going to have to run big aftermarket turbos to make 1000hp...

Sure it will get it done (lots of fast 3.0 turbo cars out there, Supra, BMW, etc) but what powerband would you rather have?

Will be interesting to see how far people can push that engine though

Regarding the head gasket failures, the comment above is a complete anecdote. Ive not seen any threads on that (yet) so it would not be a long shot to say if it has happened, it is not common.

According to the internet....the thermostat fails and often ends up taking the engine with it

As far as other problems with the engine none have made it to my YouTube feed :)

I prefer the higher RPM power band and the way those motors deliver power.... one of the reasons im a coyote guy and not an LS or LT guy.

PD blower motors just don't do it for me, personally. Their inherent inefficiency is a hurdle my mind cannot seam to jump over. I had a 650whp gt500 that was fun, I suppose, and hit hard in the midrange, but meh. I guess Im a turbo, smaller displacement type of guy.

Re the Hurricane -- It's quite a stretch to call an engine platform a failure or inferior in general, due to a bad run of thermostats lol.

Yeah, that makes sense. I enjoy 2-stokes because when I was riding one, I was beating on it almost 100% of the time, therefore always in the powerband.
On drivers I prefer torque with a reasonable amount of RPM capability, because opportunities for aggressive driving is pretty limited in today's society.
I guess thats why I'm impressed with coyotes, with the 4V and adjustable cam timing, they kind of have both, torque & rpm, with limited compromises.

As for the turbo sixers...if someone could just make one sound good, I bet enthusiasts would the move way quicker.

The HO version is fully forged (pistons, rods, crank). HO pistons are also diamond coated and the top ring-land is anodized.

Fully dressed the Hurricane is almost 200 lbs lighter than the hellcat motor.

The Hurricane also uses ladder-frame mains which fortifies the bottom end even more.

The ford 4.9 I6 is still one of my favorite motors.

Ha!! Not very flattering in that video.. hopefully they sound better under acceleration.

That sounded like a damn BMW l6
the earlier videos i saw of camo RHOs in the wild did not sound good under throttle either…was hoping it wouldn’t be too bad, but that is almost unacceptable lol, and i own an ecoboost and do not hate the noise.

That said, hellcats and coyotes are too ”blatty” for me with just a catback…they need headers.

I'm weird

Nah, not weird. Coyotes sound like shit unmuffled or too lightly muffled ol.

Nothing beats a cammed LS/LT or old Ford for sound alone.

im not at all a fan of mine. I have aftermarket downpipes (w/ cats) after my OE ones failed. I like the turbo whistle at startup but glad it only got a little bit louder @ wot.
