The 3.4T is the one destructing at will to the point where dealers won't take them as trade?

Yep. One mechanic noted the replacement short blocks have a new part number. A lot of suspicion foreign debris over 3 years of production is not the real reason the motors have been failing.

Well, look how big the Takata airbag recall was in terms of vehicle makes and years.

Ouch! Reminds me of the gt350 debacle and all the bejeweled jacket shelby owners trying to downplay it. This one special toolbag even tried to do a small dissertation on the statistics being overblown...then his car went through three motors and he exited the platform lmao!!!

Oh god I'm still laughing about that slice of karma pie

Along with running Revan Racing, I'm also a Lexus Master Technician, and about 3,500 LX600s are affected by this, I've been hearing when this recall actually hits we will be doing complete long blocks, which will make the job somewhat easier, but it'll still be a nightmare.

Just last week I had to put a new Hybrid transmission in a 2023 RX500H, it sucks to say this, but Toyota/Lexus is building some real pieces of shit.
This is the nightmare I did

What on earth is that?
I don't even recognize it as an engine, or a transmission.

That's just a bunch of random parts you piled up on the floor isn't it!
When Lexus came out with the 23 RX model they ditched the reliable 3.5V6 and went to 2.4 turbo 4 cylinder, most people aren't familiar with this engine yet. They also use the engine in the 2022+ NX350.

The worst part of replacing the hybrid transmission is you have to remove the engine with it, since the transmission is to large to pull in car, and warranty time only pays 9.2 hours. Hopefully I don't see another one.

In terms of best balancing the Performance : Reliability ratio, automotive technology peaked in 2015.

I'd argue 1998.

There is a very distinct drop in quality statring around 2005.

Look at the build quality of a 4 Gen 4 runner vs the 5th Gen.

Gen 1 Tacoma compared to a Gen 2.

A 1999 Honda Civic vs a 2003.

A lot of things seem more "modern" but it was all cost driven. Velour seats costs more than shitty "sport cloth". Dense rubberized plastic costs more then cheap "soft touch" spray plastic. Etc.

You are right about mechanics, around 2012 we start seeing more and more shit added.

Cylinder deactivation, turbos, cam phasers, emissions equipment on Diesels, etc.

VVT, VCT, DoD, DI, Turbos, Start stop add complexity and if you combine all of them in one engine, you're asking for problems.

Transmissions seem to be the only thing that has become more reliable since 2000ish.
