So after YEARS of trouble free service, I made the decision to screw everything up, and put a supercharger on my car! I litterly wrestled with this idea for over 2 years. Was pretty hung up over doing a 6-71 for awhile, but I couldn’t justify the price and what it would have taken to get working on my car and combo. The TS was half the price. So here is the current NA combo:

1969 Mustang Coupe

  • Stock 1990 Mustang 302
  • Edelbrock Heads and intake
  • FMS "B" Cam
  • MSD Dizzy and 6AL Ignition
  • Holley 650
  • Carter M60454 Mechanical Fuel Pump
  • Flowtech headers
  • T5 setup

Since I have already converted to a Fox Serpentine setup, I went with kit part number: ARP-K-FD-302S

Small Block Ford – Single Charger Kit | TorqStorm

Fuel System will be:

  • Aeromotive Stealth tank 18147.
  • Redhorse Performace Pushlock stuff for feed
  • Stock 3/8 line for return
  • Aeromotive 13301 Regulator
  • APD Blowthrough Carb
So lets get started!

After 6 weeks, the box shows up. Decisions decisions on which Mustang…

Last look of the NA setup.

Removed all the stock brackets out of the way.

Test Fitting the TS mounting bracket

So here is my first complaint. The instructions are very simple, like 6 steps. My issue is I get a bag of hardware, a lot of idler pullies and no idea past some pics on the internet on what goes where. Even when you get a 40$ desk from IKEA, it has all its hardware in individual bags! This really took me a minute to figure out. Had to separate all the hardware out on my tool bench and start labeling everything as I found out where it went. My kit came with a fair amount of spare hardware, which is nice if you need a replacement for something, but it’s really not labeled as such.

So finally got things were they needed to go

And that is about all I made it to the first day or so. Have a pretty fair amount of work ahead of me. Some things I know for sure I would need to change.

How much power with the setup before the supercharger? And what's your power goal with the supercharger?

Interesting direction you've chosen. I'll be watching your progress. (y)

Id guess it made around 300 wheel before the SC. It went 13.10@106

Wiring…. All of my wiring is in the way. When I built the motor years ago, the battery was moved to the trunk and I placed my 6AL and everything else right there. It’s all pretty much in the way and will need to be moved in some capacity.

Next up was to get the TS headunit in place and figure out what needs ordered and what needs moved.

Right off the bat, no filter fitting here. After talking to a Procharger buddy, going to go with a Turbo Guard

Turbo-Guard® SF+(PLUS) Basic Colors

I have really good room. I can run my stock Fox clutch fan, but all my electronics are in the way

Getting started. Decided to put the MSD box behind the glove compartment mounted to some piece of scrap I had laying around. This took me several days to re-loom and recreate harnesses.

After several hours of work. All cleaned up

NICE!! I can't wait to hear what you think with some boost in the mix.
How are you going to tune it...? Do you have a wideband O2? I have no doubts you'll get this thing bolted together pretty quickly, but it seems like the tuning side can get a little tricky with a blow through setup.

I added 4 gauges. Boost, Fuel Pressure, Wideband, Intake Temp. Will use them for tuning

Plan is to get a electric fan, if nothing else, just to look better. But jumping ahead, The car does not run hot at all with the stock fan :)

The carb hat and couplers.

Their kit has it coming over the distributor and I know it would not fit under the stock 69 hood. I was pretty sure I can get some different couplers and run it differently. While figuring out what couplers to go with, decided to get a Extreme Velocity carb hat. The couplers are a 3” 90 degree and a 3.5” to 3” 90 degree. Had to trim a little of the silicone, but looks like it’s going to fit fine.

The turbo Guard showed up. Looks awesome!

For the most part the supercharger install was wrapped up. Serpentine Belt is an 83.5 inch and for the upper radiator hose, I was able to cut a little off each side and seems to fit good.

At this point I was able to start the car. Sure put a smile on my face first time I heard the supercharger make some noise and the fact that I had done all that electrical work correctly on the first try! So this wraps up Phase 1 of my install. Next will be the fuel system, followed by the APD carb install.

Is the supercharger permanently lubed?
Do you have plans to filter the air intake.
Hopefully high quality hose clamps are in the plans.
Really neat looking!
Keep up with the pics and post.

- It is internal. Supposed to change like every 10k miles. In my case, that will be like 13 years, lol

Do you have plans to filter the air intake?
- Nope. Zero room to do anything. Plus, I dont drive it a lot to begin with (Hoping to change, but I am realistic) I used a screen on my old Turbo stang and it seemed to work just fine.

Hopefully high quality hose clamps are in the plans.
- The ones that come with the Torqstorm kit are nice. I used those.

Really neat looking!
- Appricated!

Fuel System

So as mentioned above, here is what we are working with:

Fuel System:

  • Aeromotive Stealth tank 18147.
  • Redhorse Performace Pushlock stuff f for feed
  • Stock 3/8 line for return
  • Aeromotive 13301 Regulator

Step one, pull the old tank and put in the Stealth. Pretty straight forward process (other than getting yourself completely soaked in gas….)

Not really going to bore with all of this, but here is the underside mostly done. Rewired and sleeved the lines for extra protection.

Ran the line and followed the stock hardline all the way to the front of the car. Being overly cautious, I wrapped anything I thought might have been in a pinch point.

I found an existing hole and used a -6 bulkhead connector there

On the inside, I had to move my overflow tank down. Here I was test fitting for the regulator placement.

And here it is 99% done. Still need to put some fuel in it and test for leaks.

At this point, I was still waiting on the APD carb to ship, so next was working on my gauges I am installing.

Really nice setup, and it's all coming together nicely. I know you don't drive it a lot, but the mods, I have a feeling you'll be hard pressed to not want to drive it MORE!

I’m digging this! Keep the updates coming.

Curious - why did you choose the TS over another head unit? I’m not too familiar with them.

A buddy of mine suggested them. Saw that they had a SBF carb kit. Once I saw the price difference between a TS and a 671, pretty much sold me.

I also watched these vids and really liked the way it sounded.

While waiting on the carb, I sorted out fuel leak after fuel leak. Pretty upset with these Aeromotive FPR and fuel tanks. Lets just say their design and quality is not what I remember from 20 years ago. I got everything to eventually work, but a major PIA.

On the interior front, I got to work on my gauges. I am adding:

  • Speedhut Fuel Pressure and Boost
  • AEM Wideband
  • Intake Temp

I knew two of them would go up on my dash, but for the others, I was trying find a place that wouldn’t look to terrible. Ended up placing down where the ash tray was.

For the Speedhut gauges, I wanted them to match the font and style of my existing Tach. Great part is, it is really easy to do with Speedhut. I wanted to do something a little different with the boost gauge ;)

So a bunch of boring wiring aside and here is the finished product.

I’ve met the owners racing NMCA NMRA over the years. Great product especially for this application.
They have some bigger billet race versions and twins too.

After weeks of waiting, I was finally received the APD carburetor. I must say, this thing is a true work of art. Entire thing is made from billet aluminum and anodized black.

I also broke down and bought some cheap Amazon wire spacers. No more Zip tie spacers!

Went pretty smooth after and here is the “final” look

Car starts better than with the old 650 Brawler I had on it. Lol. I have been slowly working on the tuning aspect. Got the distributor locked out at 18 degrees. Was lucky and got a friend to weld in an O2 bung and purchased a new sensor for the AEM Gauge (A Bosch 17212). First time I put some boost in and it went a very lean 14.5. Been slowly jetting it up and just haven’t had the time to find the correct jetting combo yet. But we are getting there.

I must say, the car sounds AMAZING! Like more than I could have hoped. I will have to work on getting some vids of this thing as we keep working on the tuning aspect of it. But for now, I think we can call the install done!
