I predict a day is soon coming when social media dies due to the negative ripple effects it has on society. IMO, the environment of hate in this country hasn't been created by an individual or political view. It has been created and fanned by social media, with members fanning issues and views way out of proportion. Group/crowd harassment. Like @Deceptive said, back in the day the parties would settle it between themselves (with little or any outside interference). I remember when I was 12-13 years old this neighborhood kid kept harassing me, and one day early evening he did it one final time. I had had enough. The two of us went at it right there on the sidewalk, with more shoving than throwing punches. We went to the ground and I got him in a headlock and wouldn't let go. We squirmed on the ground for maybe 10 minutes with him unable to get free. Finally he had enough and it was over. We got up, and went our separate ways. He never harassed me again. Neither of us were physically hurt that night, but the issue was settled. That was typically how issues got resolved. And it worked just fine!
