That over the weekend I heard a funny sound coming from my engine bay.

I called my dodge dealer this morning and they were very accommodating and told me to bring the car in right away. They gave me a loaner a 2017 ram truck which was a very nice gesture. I have a great relationship with this dealership.

Later in the afternoon I got a call from the dealership and they told me the water pump was going to break because the bearing was shot.

Car is a 2015 dodge challenger scat pack with 40,000 miles. The service advisor told me that the part was on a national backorder and could take up to six months to come in. I don’t know how he came up with this figure but six months seems absolutely ridiculous for a water pump on a car two years old.
When I questioned this they told me it looks like a 3 to 6 month back order.
They told me to keep the loaner for now and not to worry about anything and they will let me know with more certainty how long this will take in the next couple of days.

Has anybody ever heard of a part like this taking that long to come in?

If this even takes close to one month I think this is my last Dodge. I guess I will have to go in another direction either Ford or Chevy.

    What would you guys do?

Two -year-old dodge challenger water pump broke.
Dealership is telling me it looks like a six-month back order on part.
    What would you do?

I've had a recall for an airbag since March on a Ford Ranger and the part is still not available, but they'll be trying to fill those orders for years.

3-6 months is ridiculous but I have had some estimates of 6-8 weeks at most with the part usually coming in sooner. I can call my dealer and see if they can verify. All of the dealerships will get the same info if that is truly the case.

    Shit happens...

If you got the coin, might as well use this as an excuse to go hellcat.

Damn man at least they're letting you keep the loaner for now. I haven't bought a new car in over a decade but when it's under warranty do they have to give you a loaner for the entire time?

My local ford dealer took 3 months to replace a rear main seal on my buddy's 14 F250 Powerstroke, when it was less than a year old. It does sound ridiculous, but it can happen.

As an advisor sometimes stuff like that happens. I’d say it’s BS if they didn’t give you a loaner Car. Since they did I say they are telling the truth cause they would rather have that loaner for a cash customer. And I’ve ordered multiple parts that took several months to come in. Just the way it is sometimes.

That was the plan but if a simple part like this takes that long I’m thinking I might have to change it up.

Back in 2001 my girl at the time got a then new Ford Escape.

Thing was only 3 months old and it got hit in the driver's side front fender. Nothing else, just the fender.

Body shop took it apart, she had a rental, figured have the car back in a few days. Wrong.

Because it was the first year of the new model, the fender was on back order for two months. Boy was she pissed driving a rental car while making payments on her Escape.

    I’m not mad more disappointed.

I bought the car and the plan was to keep it four years then go hellcat. I love the car. I want another Challenger but I think this might be a sign that Dodge is in financial trouble??

Btw this is a daily driver.

The water pump is covered under your powertrain warranty. I just looked. I expect for the dealership to get Dodge to pay them for the warranty service they'd have to order a Dodge OEM part. Just a guess.
