Well this golf season has been a disaster to say the least. I went from hitting my driver the longest I've ever hit it, to now barely getting off the tee box. Anything from duffs to straight pull hooks....

Played a 4 person scramble yesterday and I literally got off maybe 2 tee boxes.

I'm contemplating on taking a break from golf for a couple weeks at minimum. I'm really not having fun lately and it seems to put me in a bitter mood.

Sucks because my wife and friends love golf, but I'm sick of being the worst in our group and the one we laugh at because I been sucking....

Might be time to step away.

Take the Driver out of your bag and just hit your favorite club. I did that one time the last round of a tournament and shot 38 on the back. I was just using my 4 iron off the tee. Our local course only has one par 5 that's reachable by me so I'm happy being on in three with like two 6I shots and a PW, or 5I, 7I, PW. You'll probably score better.

I've tried that.

I can't seem to hit any club consistently off the tee box. Nothing is more frustrating than duffing every club off the tee. For me it sets the tone for the rest of the hole. If/when I get off the tee box decent, I usually do fine for the rest of the hole.

I'm currently trying to find someone that I'd mesh good with for lessons, mainly with the driver.

This game is the worst sometimes.

Been playing pretty solid for the last 3 years. Shot my PB last year of an 84 on my home course with a set of Nike VR-S irons that I'd been using since just after high school. Decided after that round that I'd go get fitted over the winter months to really come out hot in 2024... I haven't broke 90 since (n).

+1" shafts (5i-58°) have completely thrown my swing off and I can't seem to get it back to where it was in the fitment bay. On a good note, I gained 17 yds on average over my old Rocketballz driver with the new Cobra Darkspeed!

That sucks. We've all been in the "forgot my swing" phase. Good Luck getting it back.

Last two rounds have been like that for me. I fell on the tee box as my foot slipped in my downswing on a par 5 three rounds ago, tweaked my back, my 3w to GW has been shit since.

Played today and outside of putting and chipping being decent as they usually are, I hit three good shots.

I probably need to go have a video session to see what is going on because eyeball test I look good.

It sure is.

I shot my best round last fall on my wife's birthday November 4th. It was a 85 and my first time breaking 90. This year I've only broke 100 maybe 4-5 times.

My friends want to golf on Thursday and I really don't want to. I thought about a little range time instead. My friend understands if I don't want to go. He saw me shoot that best round and also all of my struggles this year. A lot of it is not having any confidence anymore like I did prior. I loved hitting my driver. It was my favorite club....

Have you made any equipment changes?

I played at minimum a round a month in 2023 with my best friend and I don't think I got any better at all, but I didn't get any worse either. In my early 20's I could regularly shoot low 80's with the occasional high 70's round, but 20 years and two kids later that ain't happening... I'm happy with mid 90's now and I don't have the time to work on it at this point. Now I try to get away for 10 holes of par 3 (strange right?) at the PGA headquarters near my house every couple of weeks. It's close, in great shape, fun, and they have it lighted and have music going, along with a fantastic margarita truck in the middle of it.

The only thing I changed was a couple hybrids and a 7 wood. I was already in a slump before I bought those.

Wait, what?
The PGA moved their headquarters from Florida to TX a couple of years ago, and they built two 18 hole golf courses on it, a huge training facility, a 10 hole par 3 course, and the practice green is like the size of a Walmart... They also built an Omni Resort (hotel) there as well and they hosted the Sr. Tour PGA championship last year and will host the 2028 (I think) PGA Championship too.

I was more curious about "lighted."

I haven't played night golf but I am so fascinated by it, especially the business aspect of it.

Oh gotcha, it's just a bunch of lights like you'd see in a walmart parking lot or something like that, and for a short par 3 course it's pretty easy to do. For non-residents of Frisco it's $40 for an adult to play a round and like $20 for the kid. There's some bars/restaurants right by it as it's really more of an entertainment district now as well.

Are either of the 18 hole courses lit? After work league play once a week would be great for the 9-5ers; would be able to play a full 18 starting at like 6pm mon-fri and not "waste a day off at the course" (I'm imagining selling this to a significant other).

No, only the practice/teaching area, Par 3, and the GIANT putting green. Although I think there's a course on the other side of the lake from me that is lit, but I believe it's a 9 hole course but not Par 3...

The only golf I do is at a local 9-hole pitch and putt. Some schmo decided to build right behind a green so I use the house as the flag. Do I keep score? No need when you are a winner! I really just go to drink some beer which makes golf so much more fun.

Played yesterday and shot a 47 on the front and that's was taking a 8 on hole 9 which is a par 5. Been a while since I felt that good.

Fell apart on the back and quit keeping score so I could just concentrate on hitting the ball.

I hit up the range before I played and seemed to figure some stuff out. My irons were a lot better.

Next week I'm going to try out my 5-7 irons again. I've been using a 5 and 6 hybrid instead.

Being able to flush a iron shot and feeling the compression is one of the best feelings in golf. I really want to get better with my irons.

One of the best pieces of advice I've received is think of the top of your back swing as A, impact with the ball as B, and the end of the follow through as C. Don't swing A to B and try to hit the ball. Swing A to C and the ball is simply in the way of the swing. It keeps you from coming down on the ball and slicing.

Makes sense. I never really have a slice anymore. If I go right, it's usually a "push". Otherwise I hit a draw sometimes or a pull hook.
