Went to the range today to work on some things and try a new grip.

View attachment 1796576

The max with the PW is something I do to drop my balls on the range. Last shot with each wedge I try and rip it.my farthest so far with a PW has been 158yds. I’d never try that on a course though.

As far as my outing in San Jose del Cabo, it is the course right across from the resort. Actually, a hole or two will be right alongside the resort. We are staying at the JW. This will be my first course outside the US. I wanted to play the Pacifico Course in Punta de Mita last November but we went horseback riding. I told my wife that we are going back there so I can play that course.

I didn’t have much money when I golfed before so no exotic courses and not much actual course or range time. I make enough and have just enough free time to where I am slowly improving my faults. I am having enough fun to keep me going back. Lol!

I’d be content being in the 80s consistently. But for now, I am doing well enough at times and getting to play courses that I am having a blast.

What are you using to get those exact distances and data?

I don't bring it there. We have sheds so I lease a parking stall yearly.

Do you sip your tea and crumpets with your pinky up too?

I'm living in the public course life. I need some private course time by the sound of all this upper echelon nonsense.

I use a Garmin R10 for range sessions. As far as on course stuff, I use the Swing U app.

Today was a shit round but, there were a lot of good things to come from it. I tried a new grip method. I have always used the “baseball or ten finger” grip. On the last range session I had tried the Vardon Grip and I was unhappy with how inconsistent I was.

Today I tried the interlocking grip for the first time. It started off with punching all shots right but it was consistent. I made a small adjustment and I feel very comfortable with the interlocking grip with my woods, fairways, irons, and wedges. The driver was a different story. I kept slicing the driver with the interlocking grip. On hole 7 I switched back to the baseball grip and boom, 271yd drive on an uphill hole and it was straight down the pipe. I missed two fairways with the driver after the switch back. One was a slice, the other just leaked right too far.

The good was a 329 yard drive.

Hit the range yesterday after I finished up at a hospital. It was hot especially wearing pants. Anyway, worked on getting accustomed to the interlocking grip some more.

I tried some more with the driver but just cannot be as consistent with ball flight as I am with the baseball grip. I did stripe this one. Not a the best contact but good.

Where's the info from the putter? That's the one that matters most, lol.

Last outing was decent.

Went and had a driver session today with “The Tour Van” today.

I have been putting a good bit of work in trying to fix issues and have been making strides in every facet of the game. That said, I felt that some of my errant driver shots should not have been. Everything felt great, numbers looked good, but the slice would still show up when I felt it should not. This led me to today and what was supposed to be an hour session that turned in to almost two dedicated to testing and tuning the driver.

I have put a bunch of work in getting a feel for things and seeing the numbers so that I can get better. I have a good feel for swing speeds with my driver and their results. Though fear has me holding back a bit. Any small issue magnifies bad results with my swing speed.

The numbers on the Trackman showed similar data as I have been seeing with my Garmin R10 and the raw data didn’t jive with the results. I have “outgrown” my Hzrdous RDX Stiff shaft. Wee played with shafts, adjusted the head to 7.5 degrees but still had issues with spin rates though it did bring that down 200rpm from baseline.

We tried a few combos and when all was said and done, I am having a new setup built. I didn’t expect what was landed on. I never would have given the company a shot to be honest.

New setup:
Paradym Triple Diamond 8°
Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Pro Orange 60 X-flex
Pure Pro Black Midsize Grip

Dispersion, shot shape, direction, trajectory were all dream results for me. Ball speed jumped 5mph with the same swing speed, 25 yards were added to my average distance, spin rate average 800rpm less than my current setup, and my flight apex dropped 30 feet.

The PXG has been better than anything I have every had before. In the past few months I have clicked off multiple 300 yard drives with a best of 329. It just felt like the consistency should have been better.

The Gen 4 3 and 5 wood, 0211 22 hybrid, Gen 3 P irons along with PW and GW, the 0311 3x 56 and 60 wedges, and 0211 Clydesdale putter are going no where. I cannot ask for any more out of them as they have been incredible. Though, I did change to a Superstroke grip on the putter but it was one of the thin ones just longer than what I had.

Our local two day match play event starts tomorrow. It's amazing the difference when playing in a tournament like that vs just Tuesday night league or hangin' with the boys. Calcutta tonight so maybe I can get some good buys and cash in.

I played like dog diarrhea on a Miami sidewalk today.

My mental game needs work. I got frustrated playing with two golf bros and a guy that hit 4 balls off the tee on the first hole but somehow said he got a five.

I got into a groove nailing fairways and par’ing everything then melted down after a ball that I saw go just right of the green somehow disappeared.

Highlights were a few 290+ yard drives and a 240 yard 22 degree hybrid shot.

I need one some more drives like the one yesterday at my lesson. Absolutely smoked a ball! It is 280 to the trees and it was still 50+ feet in the air at that point.

Playing again on Wednesday and maybe Friday.

Well we only planned on playing 9 yesterday evening, but the pace was pretty fast. I shot a 48/49 so still a 97. The first few holes with the driver were pretty bad, but it's coming around.

Here is a picture yesterday at the range. This is a bigger back swing than normal. Usually it's half that or even less.

Playing 18 again this afternoon.

I'm not working on mechanics much at the moment. It messes me up mentally. And golf is 99% mental .

For people struggling with the mental part of golf, I'd suggest getting the book "Zen Golf". It has nothing to do with mechanics, it's all about mental. So far it's helped me really enjoy the game a lot more and appreciate the people I get to golf with.

I subbed in Tuesday league the other week, with a 15 handicap for 9 holes and I shot a 45. Par is 36 and with my handicap I shot a 30! We took all 4 points.

Today I shot a 98 with a handful of pars. Just had a couple bad holes.

Again guys, check out that book! I'm not even done with it yet.

We have a 4 person scramble on Monday!

Meh, if he is shallowing the club and the driver plane is in to our then it is all good. Tht is what I am really working on now, my scale memory on the in to out path.

Yuppers, the main thing I've been working on "mechanically" is swinging inside to out. I've hit more draws this year than all the previous years combined. I don't really slice too much anymore....

Disagree totally. A horizontal swing is what former baseball guys struggle with and it is a terrible habit to break. It leads to topping the ball like crazy along with near impossibility to go straight down the fairway.

Reading his scores, sounds like he's doing just fine so probably not a big deal, but for me, learning to bring my swing more upright added at least 20 yards to my drive and also allowed my irons to come off the ground MUCH more nicely.

The land of commies and socialists!
I have decided to jump back into the game soon. I am in the process of getting together all the stuff for an at home outdoor practice area.

With my schedule this is the only way I'll be able to maintain my skills and play decent golf.

2 ish years ago before I stopped I bought some Wishon single length irons.

Having everything an 8 iron length helped a ton mentally and made hitting longer irons easier.

My driver has always been the worst part of my game though. I've actually spent a lot of money on lessons trying to fix it.

To fix the driver and clean up my irons I plan on implementing a single plane swing.

Hopefully these two changes will keep things simple and allow me to play better down the road.
