I’m not following what you are saying.

Cora was protecting his pitchers the entire season.
It all payed off tonight.
Crochet pitches one of the best post season games I’ve ever seen by anyone and Chapman gets four outs although that bottom of the ninth was making me nervous.
Sox win. Yankees lose. That’s all that matters in the end. To bad they don’t have Anthony in the lineup.

I get all that shit about "managing innings" but it could mean the difference between making the playoffs or not if you cough up a game here and there during the season, which the Red Sox came very close to not making it.

Starting pitchers routinely gave you 220+ innings before the managing innings and pitch count era. Now if you get 200 innings out of a starting pitcher its a rarity. And more pitchers played into their 40's back then than they do today.

The excitement of a no hitter is almost non-existent today because they'll get pulled after 7 innings because he's approaching 100 pitches in the game. Good God.
Nolan Ryan threw 235 pitches in a game in 1974 and this is a guy that threw 100mph and played until he was 46.

I know that's just the way pitchers are managed today but I don't have to like it. Rant over. :)

I’ll give you the short answer.

Anabolic steroids.
All pitchers use them even though they don’t appear to have the muscle mass of a bodybuilder. You’re going to have to trust me on this.

With steroid use comes increased muscle strength which correlates to much more fragile connective tissues which is death for a pitcher.
They can get away with it somewhat a start here and start there.
But what good is an ace starting pitcher if they overuse his arm in the regular season and then they make the playoffs and he’s unavailable due to injuries or exhaustion?

What do you believe is the reason that almost every major-league pitcher can throw in the mid to upper 90s now and back in the era you are describing there were but a few?

These guys pull muscles jogging to first base now. What do you believe is the cause of that?

As good an explanation as any I suppose.

So bottom line is pitchers/players are more fragile and soft today because of steroid use?

100% unequivocally. YES!!

More strength More explosive Faster
Recovery from exertion.
100% Equals much more Fragility. No question about it.
I would not use the term soft though ;)

Red Sox are two starting pitchers and a middle relief pitcher plus a big bat away from that spot I’m afraid. But win or lose this series I’m happy with the team and their season. They are playing meaningful baseball in October where they were predicted to be mediocre at best.

I'm not sure how to gauge how the Mariners will do. Every year they start the season with a bang and everyone says they're going to the playoffs. About the end of July or early August they tank. I am a fully admitted bandwagon fan. I guess we'll see how they do soon.

Politicians are not to be trusted.

I expect them to go far. I liked the blue jays to win the pennant about three weeks ago but they are fighting through some injuries I believe so it’s anyone’s guess. I’m still not going to go against the Indians. They are on fire and that’s who I would ride into the WS.

not at my post...
They are a very likable team and fun to watch but I don’t see them going on after this series. They just do not have the starting pitching or a real cleanup hitter. In another year or two if they can fill some holes they will be a WS contender imo.
I like baseball the best and will continue on watching the playoffs with or without the Red Sox in it.

Those uniforms honor the Green Monster and the color of the fabric is supposedly an exact match of the paint in Fenway Park. It started this year and I was told it was delayed until now due to them having a hard time getting the color exactly matched. I don’t know if this is fact or fiction.
If I had to make an educated guess I’d say it was all done for money. ;)

“Yankees suck!”
They are my default “Go To Team” if my guys are out of contention.. I still think that 2004 run was one of the best and most enjoyable in MLB history…. Well not if you are Stankees fan

Red Sox just pulled their “number 2” starter after 28 pitches after 2 and a third innings. Their number 3 starter is out for this series. I hope they can beat the Yankees but this will be where their season most likely ends. They’ve got one of the best aces in the majors and the best closer but no starting pitching like I’ve been saying.
They’ve got a lot of holes to fill in the offseason.

In Game #2 last night, San Diego Padres reliever Mason Miller threw a record-breaking 104.5 mph fastball against the Chicago Cubs, the fastest postseason pitch since 2008. That's smokin! And the pitch placement was perfect!

Red Sox let one get away that they could have won. You can point directly at Jaren Duran's dropped fly ball and Ceddanne Rafaela's pathetic bunt attempt as major factors and I can't find video for either one.

I love Duran's passion and work ethic but he is an awful outfielder. Multiple dropped balls this season.

And Rafaela is as good a center fielder there is in the game but he's every bit as bad at the plate. Pull the ****ing bat back if it's 3 ****ing feet off the plate on a bunt attempt, and he offered on consecutive pitches way off the plate and ends up popping it up to the pitcher.

Do not forget the base running blunder of holding Eaton at third. That was awful.

The better team definitely won. Red Sox never got a runner past second base and an outfield that was considered one of the best in the majors in defense looked like shit for another game.
The Yankees pitcher was lights out but I believe the weak Boston bats made him look better than he is. Plain and simple we sucked. Bad. Beat ourselves in game 2 and just didn’t score enough runs.
I’m not mad about any of it as no one expected the Red Sox to make the playoffs this season but they have a lot of questions going into the offseason. I do consider this season as a positive one.
See you in February in Fort Myers for spring training but I’ll still be watching the playoffs through the World Series.
I do feel the Yankees will make it there but ultimately lose to the national league. Some very good teams out there.

Yeah, the Red Sox overachieved this year and they have more than just a couple holes to fill. Weak lineup and bad defense are a recipe for disaster. You know the saying, you can never have enough pitching but imo that was their strength for most of the season.

The NL's worst playoff team is probably better than the AL's best playoff team.
