...3.73 rear-end or better would have helped a lot. Took a few years for Ford to get it.

There is a problem with your write up, specifically the setion entitled "Unique Ford DOHC Characteristics." Those characteristics aren't unique to Ford, but are common to most 4v, 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines, both foreign and domestic.

I hope you are the only one who interpreted it that way. Nowhere did I state or purposely imply that the 4 valve layout only works well on Ford engines. If there was any confusion for anyone, read the section discussing why two valves per port are better than one. It's a matter of area and is universal to all engines.

yet amazingly, the lsx continues to dominate power production over every ford motor every produced.

Cubic inches rule. What more can I say.

What heads will fit this block?

So far all I've sean is a two valve with a 2.10" intake that flows 300 cfm in stock form. About on par with the Hemi's and LSX's. Doesnt seem to be a lot of faith in a 4 valve version but Ford may surprise us. It would lay the competition to waste.

Is this the 6.2 liter based block? I saw don Bowles Maverick which has a 6.2 in it at the Columbus NRMA race and if I remember right it was running 8s n/a. Not bad for a 2 valve motor.

I wonder if they will offer it as a crate and if it will make the cost of teh current 350hp hot rod crate 3 valve go down. I want to do a swap into an old falcon :)

Yes. 4.52" bore spacing with SOHC, dual sparkplug cylinder heads. Check out this picture. Pretty much says it all:

everybody is trippin, it comes down to ford is finally figuring out they need to really do somethin and i'm wonderin if anybody is thinkin about these "inferior" 2 valves that can make 500 horses and have all these cubes and still get 28 mpg, me for one i got a new edge and am pissed/ happy to see the new gt comin out and scarin chevy guys but damn its really gonna give us some problems, we are gonna have to get boosted to even stay in the game and i dont wanna hear nuthin about a 150 shot because that would be just enough to edge them out and then you have to worry about it runnin out, its not that i'm gonna be mad about the car, its gonna be all the rich little bitches around my area that daddy bought them a new gt and they wanna be cocky and i'm in a COBRA for christ sakes, what the hell man, thats whats gonna rub me the wrong way

Well, I'm pretty sure that our Cobras have more power than the 93 and 95 Cobra Rs. It just happens with time. No reason to freak. There will always be a faster car out there.

Very true Jase. A person can go broke trying to keep up with the next best thing. I say make the best of what you have as there will always be something faster or quicker.

Besides, I'd say most of us on here have cars that are faster than a stock 11 GT. Looking at thier intake and exhaust manifolds, I don't know how much they can get out of bolt ons. So unless alot of people have $5-6k lying around to put on a car they just paid $30k + for, we don't have much to worry about. I am interested to see what they make stock at the wheels though.

According to FRPP site,
FGT wet sump block weighs 100#
NVH iron block weighs 239#
Weight difference (*assuming that is the block they use) 139#

Now if they will get rid of the crappy connecting rods..............
Edit, maybe the FGT WS block will drop in price from the quantity they are casting.

You'd hope they'd drop in price, however the Gt500 heads were/are pretty much the same price as the FGT's. Guess you could get 'em at bone yards some day.

IIRC my dry sump fgt goes 110#.

The new 4v engine seems to be much better in power output and design, but as Birdman941 already mentioned, it will probably not respond to mods as the old 4v. The reason is that it' stock components are pretty damn good (intake, exhaust manifolds, etc). Basically, as far as bolt-ons go, it seems to be pretty much maxed out already.

I'd say it will respond to basic mods comparably. The new Tri-Ys aren't too much better than the old FRPP 2V headers, which were worth pretty much jack on the 2V over stock logs. The Ford guys were saying the new headers are worth 6 HP (at the flywheel) over 3V logs, so maybe 5 rwhp.

The new Coyote intake port outflows the Ford GT intake port by 4%, and outflows Yates D3s up to .475" lift (D3s flow about 355 at .475"). This isn't mild stuff. Then there's 11:1 and TiVCT. Don't underestimate the advantages and possibilities of TiVCT. If we were to believe those insider slips that these engines were making ~475 HP on the engine dyno during testing, I expect serious potential improvements from a tune. Perhaps the kind of tune gains we haven't seen before, when the tuners finally get comfortable with all of those VCT tables.

Then there's the intake manifold, we're told that they are so great, yet the Boss 302R Coyote already has a MUCH different intake manifold. To me that is a major clue.

I expect these engines with a full array of bolt-ons and a tune to perform far better than we have come to expect from the typical C-head builds, even most big bore/strokers.

This thread was nuts. I laughed, I cried, I got a headache.

What I'm taking away from this is...

- All non-FI modular guys are unsettled by the new Coyote.
- The 2011 5.0 is a technologically modern engine which may or may not have room to grow in the aftermarket.
- LSx motors are still better than Mod family motors because Ford refuses to increase displacement for whatever reason.
- ????
- Profit

I think that about covers it all.

Also, Ford kept the bore spacing the same to save costs by not re-tooling their entire assembly line infrastructure. I'd like to think that when the global economy picks back up and Ford is a little more flush with capital, when the time comes for a new architecture they'll be tired of living under GM's thumb and maybe up the displacement. Could just be wishful thinking.

I hate to say this.....and honestly I havent decided yet. But the release of this car is probably going to get me an essentially brand new 03 cobra. He wants to trade up to the new 5.0.

I havent come to terms with trading up to the 03, but I dont think I can pass this one up. This thing has never been in the rain, been babied all to hell. When I helped him work on it, I didnt even get dirty! I just dont know if I can get rid of the 01.

The LSx has never been "better" than the Mod family. Easier to make HP with n/a thanks to a massive CI advantage, but that's about it.
