now does anybody have some issues after cutting the springs ? the reason im asking is because i have this wierd noise coming from the passenger rear area and it sounds like if i had a shock or or like if some loose .. any idea ??

Did you put iso's back in? Metal sound? Clunking?

I figured it out it turns out that the shock was not tight all the way and i guess since is under A LOT of pressure is making a noise as if it was hitting something.. So i remove the one wheel once again and felt it kinda of loose i gave it a couple more turn and done problem solve ..

Finally tackling this first thing in the A.M. as I decided to wait till I got coupe springs for my vert (I was told would be much better for wheel hop etc..which I finally got today). I think I have all the info necessary but just one last question. My plan was to cut one full coil on all 4 corners and retain the stock iso's (have MM iso's also). Will coupe springs be any different on my vert? Meaning will a full coil on a coupe spring be lower or different then a full coil on a vert spring? Or will a full coil on a vert or coupe spring be the same?

I've read all posts and I understand this is a cobra thread. But just got new wheels on my Mach. And looking to drop the ride height another inch. This ok to do with the Mach as well?? I'm looking to enhance my handling a little as well. But if its not going to i don't auto cross so no big deal

For the record, I got this from another poster who got this from MM tech..

ISOLATOR THICKNESSES

Removing Old Rubber Isolators lowered the car:
i.e. OEM thickness
Front 0.62"
Rear 0.31" SRA
Rear 0.31" IRS (my guessstimate)

Changing from Old Rubber to Urethane raised the car:
OEM to MM Prothane thickness Difference
Front 0.38"
Rear 0.44" SRA
Rear ~0.94 IRS (my guestimate)

Changing from no isolators to Urethane raised the car:
i.e MM Prothane thickness
Front 1.00"
Rear 0.75" SRA
Rear ~1.25" IRS (my guestimate)

MM Tech

Along with my table:
CUT SPRING GUIDE FOR STOCK COBRA with stock isolators.
FRONT (+/-) REAR (+/-)
3/8 coil 0.50-0.75 0.75-1.00
1/2 coil 0.75-1.00 1.00-1.25
5/8 coil 1.00-1.25 1.25-1.50
3/4 coil 1.25-1.50 1.50-1.75
7/8 coil 1.50-1.75 1.75-2.00
1 coil 1.75-2.00 2.00-2.25
1-1/8 coil 2.00-2.25 2.25-2.50

Now We Need
1. OEM F/R coil free lengths (before cuts) of 1999/01 and 2003-2004.
AND
2. coil wind rates "slope" of same.

Did you do this drop? any differences in the springs, vert vs coupe? thanks

Great write-up

Did my vert using factory coupe springs that I got from a member on here. Cut 1/2 of a coil in the back and only 1/4 of a coil in the front. Car sits level and stance looks good. Now I can drive once again on these crappy Pittsburgh roads.

Car handles great and the ride is good.

Thanks, Jefe, for this write up. You taking the time to document and share the info is the only reason I attempted the procedure.

The different stances I went through in just over 2 years. Most of these have been posted on previous pages, so I figured why not show all instead of the latest.

Now at a full coil cut (maybe slightly more)

If you have no problems with ground clearance where you drive and the exhaust doesn't hang down, do a full coil. There are spots that I scape (especially right out of my driveway) and thinking about cutting more.
