The only thing the author of that R&T article said that's a little confusing is just what he means by saying the 392s drivetrain can compensate for the massively inferior crawl ratio. It has a V8 that doesn't produce enough additional peak torque to compensate for the % deficit in leverage through the drivetrain. So the Raptor will be far superior at rock crawling in that regard. Having fewer transmission ratios is not an advantage. That Ecoboost sound just can't be compared to a V8 however. Another interesting article was from Motor Trend when they were off-road testing the Rivian and brought a Ram TRX along. They said the Rivian was just vastly superior off-road. So the V8 is definitely dying and for off-road vehicles the instant torque of electric will be ubiquitous within the decade. It looks like I'll be able to score one of these at MSRP this summer. I have to verify that my dealer's allotment won't get scooped by an existing Bronco reservation holder but from what they're telling me it's mine. If it doesn't happen I guess I'll just 'settle' for a '22 GT500. I'll go Code Orange for the exclusive Raptor color. The Bronco is so much more useful in CO on weekends and in inclement weather. The GT500 would be an extremely low-mileage garage queen driven every other Sunday only.
