Tech: VMP Performance Focus RS SEMA Build

One new Ford that I have been itching to spend more time in is the potent Focus RS. With over 300HP on tap and AWD keeping that power planted the car definitely has the makings for a very fun ride. But everyone here on SVTP knows that modded is preferable to stock, and SVTP Vendor VMP Performance certainly knows how to mod. So when I first heard that they were building an RS for the 2017 SEMA show I knew I wanted to dig in and learn more about this project.

VMP started with a brand-new 2017 Ford Focus RS, and then proceeded to touch basically every hard part of the car. Just check out the impressive list of mods on this thing:

Powertrain

  • Ford Performance cat-back exhaust**
  • Ford Performance short throw shifter**
  • Levels Performance high performance intercooler
  • COBB Tuning carbon fiber cold air intake
  • COBB Tuning Accessport handheld tuner
  • Turbosmart internal wastegate actuator
  • Kompact dual port blow-off valve
Chassis

  • Air Lift - Performance series suspension
  • DBA USA 4000 series T3 front/rear slotted rotors
Wheels and Tires

  • Forgestar CF5 Deep Concave in custom matte black (19” x 9.5”) wheels
  • Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high performance (265/35ZR19) tires
Exterior

  • Chris Cruz Artistry full custom paint in matte black with airbrushed graphics
  • Anderson Composites:
    • Carbon Fiber hood
    • Rear spoiler
    • Front splitter
    • Rear diffuser
    • Rocker panels and fog light surround
  • Diode Dynamics lighting with RetroShop custom fitment
  • Anchor Room lens tint
Interior

  • Brey-Krause custom bolt-in harness bar
  • Simpson Racing 5pt harness
  • Ford Accessories:*
    • Carbon fiber shift knob
    • Carbon fiber instrument cluster
    • Carbon fiber window switch cover
    • Cargo area protector
I have to say that the matte-black paint really works on the RS, but my favorite styling feature is how the Forgestar wheels work with all the Anderson Composites carbon-fiber bits. They blend together and give the car an overall sinister look. I like it. The engine mods are what I would describe as "Level-1", but they were chosen to improve power while maintaining a very high level of streetability. You don't have to worry about massive turbo-lag or obnoxious exhaust while you're enjoying a little time in the twisties. VMP just made a great car more addicting to dirve, and way more interesting to look at.

So check out some photos VMP sent us of the build process:
