Ok, so I own this auto 93 taurus GL (Good Luck) wagon.
I love it dearly, but I've put about $1500 into it to keep it alive.
transmission replacement, 3 head gasket jobs and other misc shit.

The transmisisons in these things are about as reliable as fedex afterhours.

What exactly goes wrong inside them?

I've already tried yahoo and google search, but either there isn't an answer, or I typed in the wrong searchwords.

If there is something inside the trans that can be replaced like 1st-2nd solenoid and a coupla gaskets and a weekend, why the hell take it to Aamco or some place that'll bust your wallet?

Ok.....umm how about 5sp options onto this infamous Vulcan V6?
SHO 5sp bolts up? I rather not try since the auto trans still works and 1200lbs of eng/trans=very heavy.

Anybody know?

if you go the MTX route you'll need the subframe as well. You might give Doug Lewis at FPS in Douglasville, GA. He's the AXODE God in the SHO world.

From what I hear the changeover to an MTX is quite Extensive. I beleive you might even need computers. I do however beleive that the transmission problems are mostly do to dirt and heat, and if you change your oil more often and maybe get an aftermarket oil cooler, might save you from problems.

Well I think I'm going to get a parts SHO and pull a Thumper.
SHO 5sp wagon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No more GL (Good Luck).

I did keep up with the oil and filter, but didn't bother with aftermarket cooler.
Never really thought of it....

Thanks guys!
