Going to an afteroon (2:30) wedding this weekend.

Going to a Catholic church in the middle of August South Carolina heat. Went to a July wedding last year in my suit, and roasted my behind off.

Would you wear: A suit, or slacks/shirt/tie?

Just wanted some opinions from SVTP. Thanks in advance!

As long as you got your suit and tie you should leave it all on the floor that night.

Wear a summer suit made from a lighter material. And wear a light color, tan or a lighter blue maybe. The jacket makes the look, and you can always take it off if it's too hot.

Suit. You can take Off the jacket. I was in my cousins wedding last August. Humid MA summer for a catholic mass. 2 hours of sweating out the pregamming left the groomsmen smelling full of sin.

As someone who is a practicing Catholic, either one of these would be acceptable.

But in all seriousness, I haven't worn a sport coat or suit to a wedding in years, but Santa Barbara has its own dress code rules for things.

What?

No AC in that joint!

Call up the local U-rent and get a couple of 25 ton industrial chillers.

Otherwise wife beater and shorts. I've had to attend too many hotter than hell events. No more.

Slacks, shirt and tie. You're not going to impress anyone if you pass out from heat exhaustion.

I'm going to a wedding this weekend and will be wearing dress pants and a very nice dress shirt keeping in mind that the pants and shirt cost more than most people's suits. Suits are overdressing for a wedding. The only people I see in suits at weddings are in in the wedding party.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I just viewed the poll and its a 50/50, so it seems the opinions are definitely split.
I've talked to a few people going to the wedding, they all have different opinions on it too. The groom (my friend) wouldn't care either way. We'll see!

+1 - verbatim

light color, light material...this is not a black suit event.
