Hey guys, So today is my last day as a field surveyor at a local cable company. I had been with the company for three years. Two of those years I was a fleet mechanic, but they laid off the entire dept due to outsourcing. I found this field surveyor position in the company so I could reach the three year mark and be vested in my 401k. Now my new job is going to be a stationary engineer apprentice at a hospital doing hvac and boiler maintenance. Its a career change and im taking a pay cut but from what I know about this union I think its a step in the right direction. Not really a huge union guy but within the past 4 years I have been laid off 3 times from various positions and hope since this union is more diverse it will provide me with better opportunities to support my family. the apprenticeship is 3 years and its going to be a struggle but I think its a better career choice than automotive. The pay never seems to be there. Wish me luck, little nervous about the jump since I have a wife, 2 kids and mortgage to support. I just want to provide a better life for my family and not feel so beat down by the man no matter how hard I try to succeed.
