Understand that I am in my early 40's, grew up loving the original trilogy. I even tolerated the nonsense in the prequals because it was Star Wars and I understand George Lucas' shortcomings including his ego. Also, I had ZERO expectations going in to the Force Awakens and enjoyed it as a whole because it felt like Star Wars. As for TLJ... one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Even if it had nothing to do with the Star Wars universe, it was still a movie with almost no plot and entirely too much political nonsense that had nothing to do with the small bit of story that was there. Now on to The Rise of Skywalker. I would compare it to Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace but better done overall. Where Lucas tried to use the Ewoks and Jar Jar to make the movies more kid friendly, TROS lightened up the primary cast, dialogue, and story progression. There was a TON of apologetic pandering to the original fan base, almost annoyingly so, and Abrams tried his hardest to undo or explain away the bad writing from TLJ. They also provided explanations and back stories that were probably intended for TLJ which made the movie feel clunky at times but they were better included than left out. The best character arc was Kylo. You finally get to see the Knights of Ren but with no backstory (I think it's explained in one of the newer comics or graphic novels along with Snoke). Overall I enjoyed the movie; to summarize, it was fun. Feel free to ask questions and I don't mind providing spoilers... I will label them accordingly so people who haven't seen it have the option.
Saw it last night. Fast paced, fairly predictable, but a really good flick. Still a couple SJW tidbits that I didn’t care for.....
A serious question the SW fans, I'm in my late 30's and had all the toys and love the originals but why the f*** did they start on episode 4, drop back to 1-3 and then fast forward to now? You would have thought a woman wrote this script or a 5 year old who starts a story off mid point and jumps back and forth. To be honest SW is made for someone with ADD, at least DC and Marvel can stay on point about progression in telling a story. SW is like a windshield wiper, its back and forth, back and forth.
At this point, I wouldn't mind them recasting the original cast and picking up after RotJ. Hell, do a couple between 3 and 4 showing the struggle within Vader.
Probably because they did not know if would bomb or be a hit. Back when it first came out it was just Star Wars. It did not get the A New Hope till later. At that time the whole series was nothing but a idea in his head.
Saw it tonight and I really liked it. Totally redeemed the franchise from the turd that was TLJ. It's too bad JJ didn't do all of them. As I understand it, Star Wars wasn't meant to be a trilogy at all. After it became successful and he wrote Empire he came up with the idea that Vader was Luke's father. He changed it from Episode II to Episode V so he could come back later and tell Vader's back story.
OMG what a raging POS this movie was. I 100% thankful I didn't give Disney a dime to this flick KEEP JJ away from DC movies please!!!!!
I just saw it tonight, I know I'm not biggest star wars fan, but I've alway loved the trilogy. I think Rise of Skywalker was awesome and a great ending to the story. I'd say out of all 9 movies the only two I hated was Attack of the clones and TLJ. And my favorite is still Empire strikes back.
I'm definitely going to see it, when it comes to Netflix. Or I'll grab the Ultra HD DVD if I intend to watch it multiple times. The reviews are mixed, but pretty positive.
So bottom line is its a Redbox rental...... Its sad tho that the original Star Wars is still 10x better than any other Star Wars movie to date. The new Star Wars movies reminds me of the new Bond movies. The original Bond movies from the 70's and 80's are still better than anything else produced. Maybe some day they will realize that CGI with explosions, car chases and automatic gun fire where no one ever gets hit doesn't make a good movie. Good writing, directing and acting makes a good movie!
I gave up on the Bond flicks many moons ago but I'll give that one a shot then. Yes, imagine if Connery could have played in some of the more modern day roles and technology like in the 80's and 90's he would have been even more popular but nonetheless even in the 70's he's still considered the best Bond when polled today. I think the lack of technology and CGI back then forced them to get more creative and create that Bond allure with small gadgets and devices on both his car and his person and believable car chases and shoot outs. Unlike todays movies unfortunately.
honest question... do you really hate disney that much due to their political views? Or is it just Hollywood in general.. almost every movie recently that comes out.. you lose your shit about
