The story of the release of the 20XX GT500 reads like an Agatha Christy mystery novel but we will know how it ends next year one way or another. The car is fighting a lot of head winds as the end of production of the S550 platform will only allow for 1 - 2 years at best before they have to start over with the S650 plus they have some big shoes to fill having only 5.2 liters to work with. On the business end their stock is tanking, they stopped producing passenger cars, have directed all their resources developing EV and autonomous vehicles. On a car expected to have very low production numbers maybe only a few 1000 with a cost approaching 100K getting the bean counters to sign-off on the production order must make for some "lively discussions" in the Boardroom. A GT500 is not going to pull customers into the showroom to bolster their hybrid car sales the "halo" effect by then will have largely gone "poof!" I'm keeping my fingers crossed Ford practically invented the blown V8 and the GT350 will only take you so far and doesn't have that level of crushing torque all bottled-up and on tap at a stoplight. I'm curious on what Ford has in store for us in the S650 platform it's going to have a battery bay integrated into the chassis which will likely be under the rear seats or the floor board. The base car will undoubtedly be 4 cylinder hybrid maybe smaller than the 2.3 as it would be augmented by the electric motor. Given the direction Ford is headed I'm not overly optimistic on their commitment to the V8 passenger car engine I think the mod motor/Coyote based mills will be the last holdout before the Ford V8 goes extinct! :( Where is John Colletti when you need him? While I'm not a big fan of level of sophistication in todays performance cars and gasp at the sight of paddle shifters, Bluetooth connectivity, large display with menu driven commands I do like the S550 it's a badass looking car that's begging for a blower. I wonder if Ford has actually signed-off on the production once that happens there is no stopping it. I bet the Russians know they could leak it to the NYT!
