Do any of you have either of these phones? Ive been doing some research which mainly consist of youtube reviews and I still cant really get all the info I want. I know I will end up buying one of these phones and ill be coming from a Palm Treo.

I know(think) the samsung has more apps since its a droid(really dont know what that is) phone vs the HTC. What I really want to know is if either of these phones have helpful things like my Treo. Things like spell check, the way it suggest a completed word it thinks im typing out, or a dedicated vibrate/loud button. You know, little things that makes stuff easier.

I have read the samsung didnt do those things so im wondering is there maybe an app for it? The HTC may do it but I havent read/seen anything confirming it does or doesnt. I also dont think the HTC has that many apps to choose from vs the samsung.

The one thing the HTC has though that I like is that it has a flip up screen so I would be able to put it on a table etc, and be able to watch vids while the samsung I would have to hold in my hand. The HTC also has dual speakers and dual microphones so im assuming the sound will be alot better. These two things I REALLY like but the HTC cost TWICE as much as the samsung.

Im leaning towards the samsung because it seems to have more apps(like the Iphone) and also because its alot cheaper. What keeps pulling me back to the HTC is the flip up screen, better sound, blah blah BUT it cost so much.

Anywho to make a long story short can any of you who own one of these answer my questions? Does anybody know of some giant cell phone review website? I love my Treo when it wants to work. Im on my third one and I take good care of them, just to many bugs to be worked out I guess.

Thanks! Sorry for the long post.

I think Txyaloo has that HTC phone. I have the HTC Tilt [the first one] and I like it. It seems pretty dated by now but you wouldn't believe how nice it is to have the tilt screen.

That I do. I would wager to say Windows Mobile has more apps than any other system short of possibly Symbian since it is the oldest smart phone OS. You can also run any java application/midlet on it. Microsoft is just now getting on the app store bandwagon. There are a TON of applications available on the web, PPCGeeks, and XDA-Developers for free and low cost.

I don't know what carrier the OP is on. T-Mobile has the ugliest version of the TP2 in the states. Verizon's most resembles the European version, and has access to CDMA and full US GSM bands.

What Treo do you have? A Palm OS based one or something like the 700wx which is Windows Mobile based? If it's WinMo based, your transition will be smooth.

The TP2 has XT9 word completion/correction when you're using the onscreen keyboard. You have to enable it each time when you're using the hardware keyboard. It's somewhat of an annoyance, but the hardware keyboard is the best one available on a real smart phone. The left side of the phone has a volume rocker which when pressed will give you multiple volume steps and you can quickly select Vibrate or Silent on the touchscreen.

On top of that, you have the option to unlock your phone and run custom roms that have only the features you want built in to them, and they unlock additional features. WinMo has a huge homebrew community. Below are screen shots of the rom I'm currently running. Also, if you really like the way Android's OS works, you can run SPB Mobile Shell which basically emulates it. I get bored and switch things up pretty often.

Yeah, what he said. I've had my TP2 for a couple months now and have no complaints.

Have you seen the carousel feature of MS3.5? It's freaking sweet when hardware acceleration is enabled. IDK why manilla can't run that smoothly.

Txyaloo the phone will be through Sprint and thanks for the info. Im just wondering do you think the phone is worth the extra $200? Also my treo is the 700wx. So how many different apps would you say there are? As many as the Iphone?

AFAIK, it's only $199 through sprint. I thought they dropped their price to match Verizon's. How much is the Android phone?

Have you looked through the iPhone app catalog? 99% of the apps are fart machines and other useless stuff. I believe Apple's app store claims 100,000 applications. While I'm sure there's more than 100,000 Winmo apps, IDK how useful many of them would be to you. What types of applications are you looking for?

I have several apps that I use daily that were free on my phone but cost money on the iPhone. Hava player, pandora player, grooveshark player, free Wifi router which lets me turn my phone into a wireless access point, free Palringo messenger, Resco Photo Viewer 6 which is free, Office Mobile, Google maps, Garmin GPS which is exactly the same as on any of their stand alone GPS uinits, etc, etc, etc.

The homebrew app community on WinMo is like it was on Apple before the app store came around and people started charging. I think you just need to research the apps that are available.

You can see everything that's on the WinMo marketplace here and can even buy the apps on computer's browser and download them to your phone wirelessly.

Mobile Phones | Choose the Best Phone for You | Windows Mobile

Handango is another place to see the apps available

    Edit:

Since you already have a 700wx, you're already running Windows Mobile. You just need to decide if you like the OS. HTC just runs a shell (TouchFlo3D) on top of WinMo. I really like WinMo 6.5.1. It's still in beta buy there are quite a few homebrew custom roms you can install that run it.

I wish it was $199. Regular price through Sprint is $599 and even with me signing a new contract it still comes out to $449 before the $100 mail in rebate. The other phone I can get for $279 before the $100 mail in rebate. So its basically $449 vs $279.

Im just looking for apps to make things easier, more convenient, and fun. For example you saying that you turned your phone into a wifi device is great. I also wouldnt mind downloading some fun games.

If I could get the phone for $199 I would have got it by now no questions asked.

EnergyRoms are the best roms our there, IMO. It took me all of the drive home from AT&T to decide to install his latest release. I love my Tilt2/TouchPro 2 now that all the AT&T junk is gone. The large community out there that kicks out all these programs for WinMo is awesome, really adds to the appeal of these HTC phones.

I never read the thread since I'm on VZW, but here's where I got the $199 price.

[ame=http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=87279]Sprints matches Big reds TP2 price! (May not work) - PPCGeeks[/ame]

Apparently it's only available to corporate customers for that price, but you may get a stupid sales rep that will get it to you cheaper. Also, why not switch to VZW to take advantage of the low price or try to buy the phone on ebay?

I've run just about every CDMA rom out there and keep coming back to Energy. Right now I have the "6.5.3" 20008 build installed. I like it. There are still a few bugs, but this is more stable than the last "6.5.1" release. He needs to fix the hard locking issue, but I think that will come since a native 6.5 CDMA rom has finally been released.

Ive been with sprint for a good while now and have never had any problems with them so I would like to stay there. I also looked on ebay and if im looking at the wrong auctions their prices arent that much cheaper. I think ill just stack a few more pennies for the htc and get it when this treo decides to die on me for no reason like the others.

you say $199 is available to corporate customers.. sooo if you work for a company that gets discounts on sprint stuff? This might aply to me? Im going through the same exact debate that Tuner is..

One thing also swaying me is that the TP2 has chat style messaging.. I need that lol.

for me the TP2 comes to about 350 through sprint.. ide hop on it in a heartbeat if i could get it for 200

You'll need to HardSPL it first. I'm running the rom below and haven't had any complaints.

Make sure you read the thread and install the appropriate patches for your carrier. I prefer the 6.5.x series with the buttons at the bottom, and I haven't noticed them to be any more buggy than the stock 6.5.

I have the tp2 also and it's extremely slow and freezes quite often. i dont have anything extra downloaded on it and have a 16g micro sd card too. Any idea why mine would be giving me these probs? i never knew there was so much this phone could do until i read this thread. i mainly got if for the big screen and keyboard. the screen tilt feature has really turned into something i like though.

What carrier are you on? The stock Verizon rom was pretty decent. From what I hear, the stock Sprint and ATT roms were not the greatest.

I still have lockups and strange things happening, but I'm using a "beta" version of Windows Mobile; so, it's expected. With the stock Verizon rom, I rarely had any problems.

I have the TP2 on Verizon. No complaints. I like the phone as a phone very well. I like the 3.5 inch jack for speakers or headphones. I also like that it used Windows so everythings syncs up. Outlook, word docs, powerpoints, etc. I can't give you a comp to the droid as I've never used one. But the TP2 is pretty nice.

Have any of you been able to teather the TP2 to a laptop and use the verizon wireless phone as a service provider? If so, could you please pass along a good website? Thanks in advance.
