I love the sound of this car with the Bassani offroad X-pipe and Borla Stinger catback but at 70+mph it can wear on me. I picked up a box of sound deadener mat for the cobra and installed it throughout the trunk. In this video I do a before decibel test, install the kilmat, then do another decibel test on the same road at the same speed/rpm/gear.

Thanks to @MTBSully for the suggestion on Kilmat.

I had an off-road H and Stingers on my ‘99.

Loved it.

Even the screaming drone. Maybe I’d be over it by now (sold it in 2016) but probably not.

Swapping out the stock interior carpet for the acc mass backed carpet made a very noticeable difference in my car. Especially with the drone.

Definite decibel drops all around, so yeah, this mod can be highly recommended. Inexpensive and easy to do. Thanks for taking the time to test the before and after decibels, Tony. And thanks to your wife for having a pretty steady hand holding the meter throughout the tests. (y)

Thanks Bob. Hopefully this helps some other owners on here who may want to tackle this simple & inexpensive "interior upgrade".

The results speak for themselves.

I have a similar setup with a Bassani OR and Magnaflows (for over 20 years now). 2 years ago I also did all poly bushings in the IRS. The combo of being older now, the exhaust and extra noise from the bushings pushed me over the edge.

I add Amazons version of the sound deadening to my trunk and noticed a huge difference. Its still too loud as a DD but is enjoyable again as a weekend toy.

How much weight do you think you added?

How does it sound and how is the driving experience? Is it as noticeable as it seems based on the decreases you saw? How much have you driven since and is it still pretty impactful?

Looked like an overall reduction of 5-6 db.

The excess noise difference is noticeably lower. My wife and I have put about half a tank of fuel through the car and her feedback was "you can still tell the car itself is loud, but it's not obnoxious inside the car anymore"

I think the best way I can describe it from my personal before & after impression is the vibrational humming is significantly reduced.

Cool. I’ll think about it. My car being a convertible might not render the same results but it still might improve a little. I would probably have to add material in a lot more places.
